Anyone been up the mirror lake highway to see if Trail lake or any other lakes have ice off them yet. Also I was hoping to find out about access to the lakes (Snowpack etc.) any help would be awesome. I am thinking of taking a trip up their to catch some fish but don’t want to waste the gas if the lakes up their have no access.
Thanks ahead of time
Still a couple feet of snow up there so it’s probably a couple weeks before you want to check into going up to fish. More snow is actually predicted up there in the next couple days. UDOT and Snotel have sites with road closures and snowdepth that can help you figure when you might be able to get in.
You seem anxious to get to the Mirror Lake Highway lakes. I don’t know if that is because you like the area or that type of high-mountain fishing.
It may not be for while before those lakes are ice-free and the DWR begins to stalk them with fish. Even if they clear up within 2 or 3 weeks, there may still be snowdrifts across the highway which will prevent DWR trucks from getting through. As far as the air-stocked lakes go, you are really pushing it. The DWR can’t just start dropping unless the lakes are clear of ice completely.
That 10,000 foot area is still freezing on most nights so my prediction is that you are looking at toward the end of June. I heard from a few Evanston, Wyoming guys that they can’t go up very far from the north side either. You could hike in though, but you would be very limited as far as fishing goes.
FYI,
Mirror Lake Highway opened up a couple days ago. You’ll still find snow on the ground but is open to Evanston.
