Mantua with the kids

Went to Mantua with my 7 year old and 5 year old sons today. We had a blast catching bluegill nothing huge some about 6 inches long but most of them small. It was fast actions though which was perfect for their small attention spans. we caught probably 60 bluegill 1 perch and 3 small mouth bass ( about 6 inches also). Everything was on small hooks and small pieces of night crawler and a bober. My seven year old even caught a few with a bear hook nothing on it. Good Trip for the kids.

Forgot to mention that we didn’t launch the boat until about 7PM so this is just an evening fishing trip.

Sounds like a great trip, way to get the kids spoiled. Now they’ll expect it every time [;)]

Mantua is a great place to take the kids. Were the bass small mouth or large mouth? I have caught a ton of large mouth in there but never a small mouth although some say they are in there. I also caught a few tiger trout in Mantua this year.

I was there with 1 of my sons, and we didn’t get started until we helped a family get their boat loaded on their trailer. The motor wouldn’t kick over and they had pushed the boat off and it was a ways off from shore. We finally got them up and reloaded and we launched our boat. We tried in the N E corner of the lake and had alittle success but then we found the deep water in the middle of the lake and that’s where we found the large bass hanging. We trolled suing spinners in silver and gold for 1 hour and caught about a dozen large mouth bass, and not trout. We caught alot of perch in the shallows as well. The weather was cool and felt good. Had a great time with my son. We left around 4:30 pm.

I guess they could have been large mouth bass, I really don’t know bass very well and these were so small. I just assumed they were small mouth. We never fished in the deep we where probably 30 feet off shore the whole time.
