Mantua - Fishing from shore report

Took the kids up to Mantua this morning. They are in year-round school so they have this week off. Anyway, We fished the dyke for about 90 minutes and caught about 25 bluegill and perch. NOTHING of size but I knew that going there. The weeds are problematic the further north you are on Mantua but there are some good stretches of shoreline to take the kids and let them catch bluegill and perch to their hearts’ content. This is a great place to introduce the little ones to fish. Just remember to use small hooks for these little gills (size 10 or 12) and use a bobber.

Tight Lines…

Big Blue Gill

Oh, and watch out for the power-crowd this weekend. They should churn up all that moss rather nicely.

I was up their Thursday night…you couldnt ask for better fishing conditions. didnt want to bust the boat out so i just fished from west shore. i was the only one up there besides one boat on the water. LMB and SMB are hitting pretty hard from shore using either a white or bright green spinner bait.

this is great info, I’m going today up to mantua with my girlfriend…we’ll see how it goes

Just got back from there with my two boys. We fished on the west side down on the rocks, and right off the bat they both started catching fish. Most were caught just close to the shore, maybe 3’ - 6’ out. Started to slow down, so we headed over the east side and found some shade…and a lot more fish. Nothing too big, but some of the perch were fat and pushing the 9" mark. A fellow walked by with a huge largie on a stringer, must have been at least 17" but fatter than any fish I’ve seen in a long while. Those bass sure are eating well in there.

Kids had a blast, so we couldn’t have asked for a better fishing trip. Wind came up pretty good, so we called it a day. Probably caught 70-80 total..all species except trout.
