Was up there on wend. The kids will love it. Not sure if you have a boat or if you are shore fishing. But on the boat we just used a small #8 hook w/ 1/4 of worm on it. My 5 year old just let that sink to the bottom and reeled up a foot, and just waited to set the hook. He caught about 20 bluegill. In about hour and half. We also ran the same set up on a bobber just 2 feet down, and did good. For bass we ran poppers and the bass were hitting them pretty hard, but for the kids the bluegill will keep them busy.
How many kids are you taking up there and were are you planning on fishing. If you guys dont mind going for a .25 mile of a walk over to the point with the hill on it you will get away from some of the weeds its deeper there off the east side point..
If you dont got a boat.
Well thats cool your taking some kids out. Wish you guys luck.
Worm and bobber or panfish jigs tipped with a little bit of worm will work on the gills. If your wanting to put the kids on some bass try using brown stick baits rigged waky style.. well good luck man.
Does anybody catch any trout of Mantua? I fish up there quite a bit, but I hardly ever hear about any trout being caught this summer. I know that with the warm temps, and it being a shallow lake makes the trout a bit hard to catch- but we all know they’re in there [crazy]
I was just out there last night. If you are taking the kids don’t bother putting your line in the water, you will be plenty busy unhooking all the bluegill and putting worm back on the hook.
If you get a chance to dump the kids, and if you have a boat, I would suggest going over to the north end where all the moss is by the trees and throw some top water buzz bait or poppers and have some fun watching the bass come up out of the water.
We had a great time!! most people forget about the north end of the water because of all the moss. There are some good size large mouth hanging out over there.
Good luck… I love going to mantua.
Ive done well for trout in Mantua. Ive only caught them with a fly rod and spinners though. I think they planted a ton of cut throat thou this year in there. the most productive way for me to catch the trout in there has been with a fly rod with intermediate sink. throwing leachs and woolys…
Has anyone fished Mantua lately. I am taking some first time anglers and kids up there this weekend. Hoping there is a little action.
Thanks for the info.
