Fished the Buckboard area on Sunday, trolling for a few hours. Fishing was slow, at least for us, and we only boated one 21-inch mack on a watermelon Serpent spoon at 42ft. We marked a lot, but just couldn’t generate any interest.
We boated downlake and salvaged a slow day by fishing a couple of hours for rainbows. Fish were stacked in the backs of some of the draws in10-15ft of water and we ended up boating 14 fish ranging from 16-21.5 inches, and missed or lost a few more. The winds (20mph) kept us from jigging effectively, so we switched to casting crankbaits (Shad Raps, Xraps, and Berkley Frenzy Minnows) and had a blast.
Main channel temps were 38-42F, and stained water in the draws was up to 44F. Hope it helps, Ryno

I am going to be headed that direction this weekend, but down towards the dam.
Have any pointers for me? Thinking more along the lines of fly fishing and not sure if I should give that a shot one day while giving the river a rest, or not.
Already what you’ve said I think may help out, I am wanting to target the rainbows or any thing else that bites for that matter, but was thinking the rainbows would be stacked up in the coves? is that right? Should it be that same way around the entire lake and down around mustang?
Think I would have much luck on the fly line?

Hey bud, thanks for the report. I’m looking forward to future reports so keep 'em up. I am mostly concerned about water temps but I know others like to know what you’re catching and when. Just a few more degrees and the real fish will start biting [;)][;)].
You could definitely have some luck with a fly line. I’ve done that a few times, when I’ve had some calm days. I think that pattern would hold reservoir-wide. Just fish the backs of coves and canyons where there’s some water coming in. There’s usually rainbows taking advantage of the increased productivity in those areas and also some trying to spawn. Down near Mustang you could possibly find bows in Cart Creek, Bear Creek, Allen Creek, and the Skull Creeks. I checked both Bear Creek and Allen Creek last Saturday, and didn’t find any, but that could have changed by now.
The river has been good too. Last night there was some killer mayfly and midge hatches. I’ve also heard some recent reports of fish being caught on terrestrials, wooly buggers, and streamers. Good luck, Ryno
