Flaming Gorge Catch Report- 10/11/09

[indent]Hit the reservoir this weekend and the catching is still good. I haven’t fished for a couple of weeks, but found the lake trout and rainbows where they were last month. We fished in the vicinity of Mustang Ridge and Jarvies Canyon.

Rainbows are still hovering about 30-50ft and lake trout about 60-100ft, near points, cliffs, and submerged islands and ridges. Vertical jigging was the ticket for lake trout and a few rainbows, but the kids also caught rainbows while casting with a slow retrieve. Some of the lake trout hit on the drop, but most took some light jigging. Most of our catch came on minnow/tube jigs (shad and rainbow colors) rigged on a 3/8-1/2 oz. jighead.

It’s fall so there were only a few other boats on the pond. Water temps down in the Canyon were 55-58F.

Hope it helps, Ryno

Thanks for the report Ryno.

Looks like the kids were having a good time.

They were cold occasionally but tried to stay warm with the catching and teasing fish in the livewell. They kept us busy too, but you know how that goes! Ryno
