Flaming Gorge Catch Report- 3/28/09

Late report, but still worth reporting. My son and I launched at Mustang and boated to Sheep Creek on Saturday. Apparently the word was out, and quite a few boats were taking advantage of the soft water.

We graphed a school of rainbows near Kingfisher and started trolling. Just about every pass produced a bow or two. Unfortunately we lost a few, but we ended up boating around 15 bows and a bonus mack ranging up to about 18 inches. My son wore his arms out reeling in fish. They hit everything, including Shad Raps (crawdad), Serpent spoons (crystal shad, tequila), and Radical Glow tubes in pink chasing a Signature dodger. Depth was variable too, from 10-60ft, and trolling speed was about 2-2.2mph.

On our way back downlake we did some sightseeing and found some more rainbows stacked along a talus slope in Red Canyon. Casting chartreuse curly tailed Berkley Power Grubs, tipped with meal worm, produced a follow, bite, or fish nearly every cast. The success was shortlived though, and the wind made it virtually impossible to hold the boat. We landed 5 more, 3 keepers, giving us our limits of healthy bows before racing back to the ramp.

Fishing was hot and while it lasted the weather was great. Water temps are still 36.8-38F. Hope it helps, Ryno

Good report Ryno [;)]
