I decided to give Echo a shot this morning to see if I could catch a few for dinner tonight. I got a late start so I did not get there until 9:30. I Starting fishing in 40 feet of water with little success for the first hour or so. Seen a few go by but I thought I was going to have a very small dinner.
I finally caught a couple small rainbows and then again nothing.I Moved to 54 feet but no luck there either. I went back to my original holes and for the next hour and one half the bite was on.
All fish were caught at the 20 to 35 foot level. Foxy jigs with a meal worm was the ticket. White or green worked equally well
Ice is plenty thick, and the edges were in great shape. 3 inche of snow on the ice, and no slush.
Nice Report.I thought there would be more snow up there ![]()
Think’n of headed up to Echo tomorrow Sunday…where you at the dam, marina, or swim beach area. We usually begin out Echo fish’n parking above the marina and walking out from the ramp…thanks in advance. [;)][;)]
I was at the second turn out from the dam, and then walked to the North.
I’m glad you had a good time, my experience was different that day. [crazy] I was there with my son in the afternoon wanting to get out with the break in the weather while we could. (I thought it might be OK there compared to other waters, cuz not long ago I caught at least a dozen dink perch there in a downpour. And I’m just not that into slimers…)
I caught a nice bow right off the bat at 42’, but there wasn’t much left in the area after his fighting. We moved, but from there is was all down hill from there…
We drilled holes all over the place for a good half mile area or more (around the middle of the lake, which has been good for me for perch, in years past) in water from 42’ to 23’ deep. A few lookers here and there were evident on the finder, but that’s 'bout it. I had 5 poles and threw every size and shape and color of lure I had, with different baits and different action - no joy. (I found myself thinking of other potential colors I didn’t have, maybe I should make something with orange or pink with black spots, or maybe dark with white glow spots… hmmm…) Heck, I even broke down and tried lures that came from a store! [;)]
So, I made our second bad decision about the day, and we tried out by the dam where I read others have done OK for trout. A few other groups were there, and they weren’t busy, so I tried around the first pull out - and I never even saw fish on the finder. It was going to be dark soon, and we had the lake to ourselves by then - so we decided that we had over funned and went home.
I wondered what I should have done differently. Has anyone ever fished right by the outlet of the dam? And, having never targeted slimers, what are the tactics? Do they school up and you drill till you find 'em like a pan fish - or pick a spot and wait for loners to come thru this time 'o year? (thanks)
Good luck everyone! ![]()
