Hit East Canyon this morn with a bud from work. It took awhile of searching, but we finally found some hungry fish. We iced between 40-50, nothing big, maybe 15-16 inches. The two highlights of the day, was watching the guy on the snowmobile lose his hat, and while turning around to retrieve it, he put the sled on it’s side and then proceded to do a somersault as he was thrown from his machine. The price of admission was worth it just for that. If that was any of you, thanks for the cheap entertainment. The second highlight was watching my buddy come to life when a fish decided to visit him while he was snoozing. He didn’t have a clue where he was when he was rudely awakened by a fish knocking his rod off his bucket. It was a great day. Sunny, no “W” to speak of. There were lots of people out enjoying the weather.
we went up today also lots of people, good weather, and not a bad day but not really a good either we caught about 20 between four of us
Sounds like you had a fun day. I am looking to head out there tomorrow and hope I can catch some fish. If you don’t mind we asking, where about were either of you fishing. It has been a long time since I have been to EC.
Thanks
how thick was the ice out from the boat ramp? that is you were anywhere near there.
I don’t know about the boat ramp but Taylor Hollow I think is what its called ( I have only been to east canyon twice) there was about 6 to 7 inches
I also fished Taylor Hollow. I would say the ice was closer to 5" where we were.
Me and my boy was at the boat ramp today the ice was about 8", Fishing was slow for us,[crazy] I think we only iced 6 or 7 fish, kept 2 bows for dinner,
kept moving but couldn’t get in to them, It was real spotty,
Did get one 10" kokanee but it came off at the hole [unimpressed]
to small anyway,
Ran in to BigFish12 was good to meet him, He was doing good [;)],
Had some friends that was up by the rock above Taylor hollow they done okay up there also. But all in all it was a slow day for most everyone, But it was a beautiful day ![]()
T-wolfer and I were up there as well today along with two others in our group. We arrived about 830 and fished till about 330 and ended up catching 65 between the four of us! It was a killer day for us..guess we were just in the right place at the right time! ![]()

Hey mackdiesel, where were you guys at today and how deep?
Well here is my report for the day. I too fished East Canyon with my son and some friends (5 of us in all). We started off on the point west of the ramp and caught several 5-7" tigers on about anything we dropped. Got bored with them and moved about 12:00 and headed east towards Dixie Hollow. Found a spot where we had good success in previous years and the fishing over there was fair. We landed 10 12-15" rainbows and 1 big tiger. Finally decided to call it a day around 3:00. Ice was at least 7" every time I checked. I sure miss the big ones that were there 2 years ago, maybe there in there somewhere??
Although I have fished up there quite a number of times I am unsure of the names of the bays. We were in the bay opposite of the dam on the north side of the boat ramp. We passed the marina due mainly to the large crowds and to avoid paying to park.[;)] We fished in 50ish feet of water and caught most if not all around 15-20 feet. It didnt seem to matter if we had a wax or meal worm they just wouldnt quit. Good Luck and hope that helps. BTW if
Two of us went up on 1/10 as well. We did well and were on fish the entire time we were there. They were all in the 14"-16" range, all rainbows.
I am new to the area and not sure where we were exactly (other than I remember what looked like a melt in the ice about 20" in diameter near where we dropped down into the lake).
We fished in 25 feet of water and did very well suspended 18" off the bottom. We fished from 7am - 11am.
I have been fishing for a few years (25+) and have ran into something new. The first bow that I landed had a “fuzzball” hanging out of it’s anal opening. I pulled at it with my forceps and found it to be deer hair. As I pulled, more kept coming, so I got a good pinch and pulled a 8" “tube” of dear hair out. It was one of the oddest things I have even seen. I have seen many things in the belly of a trout, but that one is new to me!
I think you meant 20’ & not 20". Yeh, that big hole of open water is at Taylor Hollow. It also looked like there was a big chunk of open water on the West side where the 100’s of ducks & 3 geese were keeping open.
