East Canyon 2/2/08

Went to East canyon with my son and some friends. Arrived around 7:30 and parked at the boat ramp. Walked out toward the Dixie Hollow arm. Fished out off a point in 40 feet of water. Marked a lot of fish on the bottom but not any takers. We caught around 18-20 fish between the 4 of us and most all the fish caught were suspended in about 15-20 feet of water. Caught them on white jigs. No bigger fish, just all small guys about 12-13”. Ice was around a foot thick with a bit of slush on the top. Lots of snowmobiles and 4 wheelers on the ice. We ended up leaving around 12:30. Ran into Buglingforbulls. Nice to meet you, hope you ended up getting into the fish.

Thanks for the report Travis.. I’m thinking on heading up there this week some time.. But i bet after todays snow storm the slush monster will be out big time..[unsure]

Just wondering if you went up to EC from Morgan or Hennefer. I tried going up from Hennefer Sunday and turned around because of the snow. Thanks.

Saturday morning, we went around the other side and found that those bottom-fish didn’t much cooperate either. But we did a lot of active jigging around 20 feet down for rainbows. We did best when over 35 to 40 feet of water. All fish we caught were suspended! These fish were 12 to 14 inches, some really fat.
At 7am when we first arrived, we marked fish right under the ice, 1 - 5 feet below the ice, and busily caught 8 to 10-inchers.
We left around 2pm, and on the way back toward Morgan saw several hundred (no exaggeration) deer, 20 or so elk, a flock of wild turkeys right by the road, and multiple bald eagles.
What a day!

We went up through Henefer, but that was Saturday- before the snow. There were quite a few deer in there also.
I have heard alot about these starving animals but I have to disagree a bit. While I’m not going to say that they are fine, the ones I saw right on the road appear to be ok. No rib bones showing or anything like that. They are still in dire need of a break in the snowstorms, but I think alot of them can and will make it through the winter.

Hey elkaholic i was the one of the kids with buglinforbulls! after you guys left we didn’t stop reading them all over on the fish finder from 25-40(bottom)ft for about an hour. We were fishing about 5ft off the bottom. We couldn’t loook away for more than a couple seconds before there was one attacking our jigs! We only ended up with a couple tigers and a few bows but we easily missed 100-150 bites! On the drive up there like someone said above there were TONS of deer and elk and a few turkeys. We saw a herd of about 50-70 elk with about 5 bulls.
The only bad thing about the trip was that it was really slushy on the lake i would recomend you bring a shovel!

once yer seen bones its to late. been feeding since dec, now the fish and game decides its time ther idiots.would rather watch them starve.and give the money to education.
