went to Yuba today meet up with Cesar (Ocean) at the ramp. got packed up and headed out to the spot.. we all got out there got some holes punched and the hut’s set up.. fished for about 1 1/2 hours with 1 perch and 1 rainbow to show. so the perch have moved out from the sticks.. so we moved over to the island to give it a try.. perch were all over in there at 30 feet. fishing was spoty sometimes all of us would get bites. other time just one at a time. well as the day went on we were getting down to the last fish we needed to get our limits. my last fish of the day was a TOAD! my boy tommy dubbed it Toad-Zilla. we stoped at the store on the way home and had it weighed.. it weighed in at 2.18 lbs and was 14 1/2" inchs long.. close but no record.. [sly]

My son caught one not quite that big a few years ago and now he wishes we had mounted it.
It was good to meet you and Ocean at the the end of the day. No sense in making another post so this is how we did. For the first time in 8 years I convinced my wife to go ice fishing. My family all caught our limit but nothing over 11 1/2" and just a couple dinks that were cut up for bait on the next go around. The perch are still over there by the sticks but just a little deeper. We stayed in 24’ after moving away from the sticks. My daughter caught the last fish of the day, a 19.5" pike which she proudly walked all the way back to the car with the lip grippers. We used TD’s jigs that I got from him this morning tipped with perch eyes or ‘smelly perch meat’. One of TD’s infamous lead jigs caught the toothy critter. I think I may have figured out a way to lure the pike in but I’ll have to test it out again to make sure, 3rd time is the charm.
I recognized your boy the second I saw him, make sure you tell him he’s a famous fisherman. I have seen perch that long before but never that fat, I believe ‘toadzilla’ has earned you bragging rights.

That is the biggest perch i have ever seen. Man you still had that grin on your face as you pulled out of the parking lot![;)] To bad we didnt make palisades it would have been somewhere new to fish for me. I am glad we all limited out i filleted all the perch and now they are in our bellies!! 
Bruce is still mad about losing that pike that cut his line.He wants revenge so he wants to go back. It was good to finally also meet fshforfun05 in the parking lot. Gonna have to get with you one day and do some fishing.Great weather,great fishing and most of all great company you just cant ask for much more !!![:)]
Sounds like it was a good day on the ice for everybody.
So, ya let your daughter whack you again. Good for you. It is sometimes hard to keep shakin’ the fish off your line just so a youngun can be top rod. I’ll bet she was a happy young lady.

Excellent. I’m guessing that was one of the original plants, after the big drain. There should still be a few more of them in there, but once they spawn they will probably not be nearly as heavy.
The good news is that there are a grundle of 11’ - 12" fish that can be that big next year…we hope.

well let me know when your going to try this pike calling trick.. i would like do some R&D on the pike as well down there.

i’ll say this that lake is going to explode this spring! with the water that’s going to be there the whole lake is going to fill to overflow stages.. there will be so much cover for all the fish in there to have a great spown. the next 3 or 4 years should be set for yuba!
can’t beleve i’m saying this but it might even be better than the early 80’s. if the eye’s make a showing anytime soon.

Well do you think your wife will go out ice fishing again? Or is it going to be another 8 years ? The tents make it comfortable for the wives but a heater makes it way better.Thats the only 2 reasons my wife would go out ice fishing.Its great that your daughter caught that pike makes it a fun time when you can outfish yuour dad!!
