Worried about the berry?!?

i’m going to strawberry tomorrow hoping to take a snowmobile to haws point and or renegade. should i be worried about the ice with all this rain in the valley right now? or is the ice not being effected by it.

You had 14 to 15 inches of ice last week. This weather hasn’t affect the ice. You may have some slush on top of the ice; however, still plenty of quality ice below it.

thanks do you have a preference of haws point or renegade? which is turning out more fish right now? how deep of water and such?

Took snowmobiles across there on saturday with out any problem.
There is always the soft spot at Haws Point so be careful there.

will i be able to see that soft spot? or will i cruise right over it and not know it

Its right at the tip of Haws Point. I went up on the bank and then back down on the ice.
Frozenover went out and around the point without any trouble.
Just watch when you get close to the point.
There is another area when you go through the gap down close to Renegade. The little bit of open water was close to the shore.
We fished in about 32 feet of water. It wasn’t a banner day, but it was fairly steady.
We caught them on minnow chunks and meal worms, nothing on wax worms.

when you go to renegade do i want to just find 30’ of water or should i stay closer to shore or out in the middle? thanks for filling me in

Hard to say.
We started in 32 feet of water. We tried drilling in closer to the shore and found 19 foot.
We put the finder in a few different holes at different depths and we only had luck at our first holes.
It could be we spent more time there or it could be the fish were deeper.
We didn’t go any deeper and maybe we should have. The wind came up and it got cold so we just stayed put.
We watched one group closer to shore and could hear them holler that they had caught fish, but we never saw them.
One of the group came past us and drilled a hole closer to shore and didn’t stay very long, so I am sure he didn’t catch a thing.
If it suits you, I would drill some holes out deeper in the morning and work closer in afternoon.
Having said that, I think the fish move around and will come through if you stay in one spot, but I am not an expert.

You will be fine on a snowmobile. Strawberry is much colder than the valleys down here. Just take good boots.

cool thanks you guys. good boots are a must cold feet are the worst when your fishing
