Looking for any word on whether there is enough ice to go across to Haws point so we can get to Renegade to some of our favorite spots? We are heading up Tuesday and cant decide if we should ride the road or go across. Any word from anyone would be helpful. Also looking for any ice rpoerts from the Renegade area so if we do ride the road can we get on the ice with or without our snowmobiles. Thanks in advance.
I took my snowmobile straight across from the marina this morning. There were several other snowmobiles and a couple of wheelers that went straight across. I never ran out near Haws point to look, but there is usually a really nasty pressure ridge that runs straight out towards the highway from the end of the point that might be a little interresting to cross. Everywhere I drilled holes today there was around 10" of ice (7" clear, 3" grey). I didn’t stop to drill holes in the middle of the bay, but it looked good and only one small pressure ridge getting across. Put your ice scratchers down, there is basically no powder at all on top to cool the track.
Fishing was really good for us. My brother in law and I iced close to 15 each, tight lined or lost that many more and iced a pair of 24" fatties to make for a solid day, we never moved from our initial 27’ deep holes. Fishing really turned off at 11:30 as usual and we threw the usual strawberry set up at them. Good luck.
I think you would be fine, but i don’t want to be responsible if you go through [;)]. There were plenty of sleds out on the Ice on the 26th and a few were cruising over that way. There was a solid 10 inches across the whole bay next to the marina (Badger Bay).
Thanks for the info! We are headed up on Thur. and had the same ? about taking ATV’s.
Wiperslayer1 was up there yesterday with his ATV, if he does not respond to this post you can send him a PM to get the details. WH2
I was out there yesterday and saw a couple of atv’s out on the ice. I plan on taking my mine out there Thursday or Friday. The path to the ice was snowpacked and the ice by the marina was 8"+ with a couple of inches of packed snow.
Hopefully the storm on Wednesday doesn’t bring to much snow.
