Fished willard bay yesterday got to the ramp at about 5:30. The boils didn’t start until late afternoon about 7pm they were quick boils maybe a minute. Caught a few but one big un. Picture sare not that great camera was dead had to use my cell phone.

I’m a novice in reporting and we estimated it to be around 5 to 6 pounds and over 30 inches, but not really sure. We were in the north end but the boils were happening everywhere just have to wait for them
I have never fished at Willard Bay and I want to go out in the next week or so. What should I use when I see a boil? What should I use trolling until I see one?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have no idea about trolling have never really done it. When you see a boil most people use black and grey lures to make it seem like shad that the wipers are attacking. I actually just used a green jig so I’m betting they pretty much will take anything once they get into a feeding frenzy.
measured it came to a little over 30 inches
very very nice. Biggest we’ve caught is 21 1/2. I bet it was a fighter
Those are some huge wipers. I am going to definately say they were at least five to six pounds. Slap a tape measure on them next time. I was also curious to see how long they were. I would guess a 30 inch wiper would way 10lbs? I could be wrong I am no Wiper expert, but 30 inches is a huge fish especially how much girth a wiper has. No matter what the length those are some damn nice fish good job![fishin]

ummmm, you know if that IS 30", the record right now is 26 1/8 @ 9 lb 12 oz. You sure it was only 6 lb? Shoulda got pics and weights and put in for a new record.

Thanks everyone I am kicking myself in the butt right now for not having a scale. it didn’t feel like over ten pounds but I could be wrong. I know I beat the record as far as length but maybe not weight! Unfortunately this bad boy went in the freezer without me thinking about it and now if I weighed it, it would probably be wrong [frown].
Does anyone know if fish gain or lose weight once in the fridge and then defrosted?
Do they get longer or shorter once dethawed it’s been 9 hours
so for now all I can say is I beat it by the length measurement. Too exicted forgot to measure with pics. I will not make that mistake next time.
All the other wipers we caught were about half the size of the one in the pic and 1 was pretty big about 22 inches.
I would have to guess that when the fish is frozen it dries and the fish loses weight. I would also say that when it is frozen it will lose a couple of inches because of the drying process.
Congratulations Sorya that is one fine wiper. The head on that thing is huge but the tail looks small, maybe that is why it did not weigh more. If I were you I would still have it weighed, so at least you know for sure. You never know it might weigh more than you think. Here is an 30 incher that weighted 11 lbs we caught some years back at a lake in Nabraska. WH2

Yes looking at that picture I know mine was not 10 pounds just not the girth as the one in your pick. I believe I was right in my est. about 6-7 or maybe 8
WOW! Over thirty inches. This is the big one I caught Aug 2nd. 27 1/2 8lb 12 oz It had to way close to ten congrates man. Mine is going to be mounted.
