Let me know what you guys think of the open water time frame.
You can take your boat out now, head down to Powell there catching fish already
Look at my post “Gorge 21st and 22nd”, then scroll down and look at the pics I posted. If that doesn’t get your boat wet, nothing will…![]()
My boat has the cover off and I am washing and waxing her in preparation for a trip. Maybe Powell this week-end maybe the gorge or perhaps I will wait for Utah Lake which might happen by the first wek-end of March if this weather keeps up. Regardless, it will be off Utah Lake by March 15th. Guaranteed!
You don’t have the right place to vote for…
Jordanelle by the first…
A co worker said there is alot of open water on Jordanelle
You forgot the choice of “Two months ago”
I think bassrods will join me in voting for that one.
ill second that, the water is opening up fast

When you look on the camera up there and turn it just past the building you can see the open water…If we could get them to plow the PWC ramp we could be catching bass now…
isnt the water too cold for the bass at ice off?
if not what are some go too tactics?
I think you are right about the first, with all this warm wind today
How much snow is on the ramp ?
It is only too cold if your not fishing for them…
I use most of the same baits I use in summer at the depths I find them…
I have caught bass at Jordanelle the middle of Jan. with water temps at 36* …
And LM bass through the ice at Pelican and other places…
Why would it be to cold???
Eight inches or less, but come thursday they say we could get 6" more up that way…
I am not saying that its too cold to fish, just too cold for the fish to be actively feeding enough to make a worthy attempt.
"I use most of the same baits I use in summer at the depths I find them… "
Are you willing to exploit ^
Its like in summer when the bass is 30’ deep or 5’ deep, in winter they move up or down the same way looking for food…
In winter if you find the food you find the bass or any other fish, There is only three things that the fish (all fish) are looking for…
-
food..
-
safety..
-
Sex…
When they are full, they look for safety…
When the right time of year comes they reproduce…
But they eat any time that the food they want comes along…
They can be starving but if the food they want does not come along they don’t eat…
I don’t know you and I’m not attacking you, but that is a stupid question. You can always get you boat out on Lake Powell, and this winter you could have launched at Bear Lake just about all winter too since it did not freeze. Now if you had a specific water you are talking about that is frozen, then say so. If not, then get you boat to BL or LP and go fishin.!
There is a lot more than 6 inches of snow on the Boat ramps at Jordanelle..I would say there is 3 feet of snow easy…plus…150 feet of ice in front of the PWC ramp..Bassrod..don’t get all worked up yet.. there is still lots of cold icey nights ahead..
Holy COW!!! OUCH!!! But you have a good point… LOL I didn’t know that lake powel and some of the other laes don’t freeze over. I guess I should have asked about up north by Roy, ut. Like Pineveiw, willard, and mantua… LOL You have a good point though, I think I will just get up to bear lake and exersise the boat motor for a few hours. Can you tell me where I can launch at? I mean I don’t know if one ramp is better right now or not.
There is less then 6" of snow on the ramp and in some places the ramp is showing I was there today…
But as of Friday I will be at Powell for three days and by then I hope Jordanelle will free up and let me get my boat on there…I may have to use a snow shovel but time will tell…
In the next few days there will be a few lakes free up…
