Ok, so, I’ve tried to convince myself that ice off isn’t going to happen until like mid-march just so that I can try and stay somewhat sane…but I still keep looking at the weather report everyday!! Has anyone seen? There’s supposed to be high winds tomorrow and a couple other days this week, and I’m seeing highs of close to 50!!! Could it be?!? Is it possible?! Is that enough to take all that ice off of Utah Lake??? Or Deer Creek? Or Jordanelle??? [crazy] I’m gonna freak out if I can’t launch my boat in the next two weeks…
COULD BE SOON. I THINK SOME SPOT ON UTAH LAKE WILL BE OPEN WATER NEXT WEEK. AT THE MOUTH OF PROVO HARBOR THER IS A LITLE OPEN NOW. LIKE 30 SQUARE YRS.LOL
You had better head out to Powell. If it is 50 here it should be very nice there.
Dude i feel your pain i am in the same frame of mind!! Ice fishing doesnt treat me good . Cant wait till i get my boat on the water and start to put a hurting on some fishies. My goals this year are to hit yuba, willard bay, strawbery, fish lake, scofield, otter creek, deer creek which will be the first body of water which i will probably hit first! And most of all Lake powell i gotta hit that lfishermans lake of paradise!! Wish list of lakes is starvation and flaming gorge .I will probably be sending some open invites on some trips this year. I’m trying to keep calm but you’re not helping [angelic]. I can’t wait for some soft water, I just got a new truck to haul the boat and it’s killin’ me. I might just hook up the boat and drive around for a while
. You think it’s bad waiting for ice off, waiting for water temps to rise is worse.

What exactly is a “fishreman”? Perhaps it’s similar to a ‘fisherman’? Kind of like dic is similar to dictionary…

Just teasin’ [;)]
You need to buy a snowmobile. I used to get so nervous waiting for the ice to come off Utah Lake, it would get the best of me and I would go down and bust the ice out of the harbor with my boat. Five years in a row, I was the first boat out of Lincoln beach. Finally got tired of fixing big holes in my boat. Doing fiberglass in March sucks. No doubt the Walleye will bite as soon as the ice is off, but it ain’t worth it anymore. Now I just enjoy the snowmobiling till the ice is gone. Which will be St. Patricks day this year on Utah lake.(my bestest guess) Deer Creek will be one week later because all the ice will be shoved up into the north end and the south ramp won’t be open. Jordanelle will probably be the same time as Utah lake. Thats my predictions, so relax,or go to Redmond and catch some Pike.
Spring will come and fishing will be wonderful again. You just need another addiction to get you through the withdrawls.
Basket weaving is good.
I couldn’t agree more! I brought my boat in a few weeks ago and did some work on it and now I can’t stop thinking about open water. Ice fishing season is usually tolerable if not downright exciting but for whatever reason I haven’t been able to get into it this year. It seems as though everyone else is feeling the same way. At least we’re not alone. Maybe if we all think warm thoughts it will get here sooner[:)].
Since we’re on the soft water subject, what kind of boat did you get?
I feel ya. I got my first boat last spring and had it on the water around 30 times. It’s sitting in my driveway calling to me right now. Ice off is exciting, but I’m with Fish4fun05, waiting for the water temps to rise is worse. The ice will come off Utah Lake really fast with a good wind.
I wish this post never existed…I got my new boat last spring as well. Made quite a few trips in early spring hoping to catch the right temp that triggers the bass, walleye, etc. I learned a thing or two about what to use but the fast action didn’t pick up untill May in northern Utah for me. This year I’m going to lay low and use my fishing bible for trips. Diesel fuel costs way too much to be exploring 2-3 times a week.
I live 1/2 hour south of Yuba. It’s 62 degrees and really windy! I can almost hear the ice breaking up on Utah Lake right now.
Hey Alex, go down to that hot spring and look around, it might be open enough. a couple of years ago I seen U.L. go from froze to wide open in 4 days. took my boat down and it was froze with 4in. ice. came back 4 days later with ice fishing gear and it was wide open. with the wind we had last night and today it might be sooner then we think. later chuck
Kinda makes you want to cry… Lake Powell anyone?
Global warming? Yeah…right.
I said when ice off is going to be with in a week or two and some said NO WAY …We’ll see …My boat is gassed and ready and I know when…
[sly][;)]And I will let you know when I get back from the Nell and all those nice bass I catch and released…And a few browns…Oh I mean (slim rockets)…[sly]
Yeah, I’m going to have to go check it out. I live in Springfield now, so I’m going to just have to make a drive over there and see what it’s lookin’ like. If you look on utahlakeview.com, at the mouth of the Provo Boat Harbor, there is a patch of open water. Weeeeee… ice off is just around the corner… ![]()
