Well I did a drive by from SLC down the back side of UT lake and up through Goshen canyon to the dam on Mona on down to Yuba and up to Manti and down Nephi canyon and back up I-15…
On the way down most of the lakes ice looked kind of good in the morning but by 4:00 any and all lakes was looking like they had water on the ice…
Mona looked real bad like it had open spots and at the south end of Utah lake looked like some open spots or water on the ice…
From Payson up to SLC the temps along the freeway was from 50 to 56 at 6:30 to 7:15 by morning if temps don’t drop below 32* the ice may not be safe…So take care…
I’m with you guys. Ice fishing kind of bores me, I can’t wait for open water. Sadly I’m in Cache which has still been pretty cold. But Cutler is getting holes in it, and it’s supposed to by in the 40s with rain all week, so perhaps the dance his having some effect, even up here.
[indent]Normally I wish that the ice stays as long as possible, but this year I would not mind if it took an early leave. None of this in between crap! So ya’ll keep on dancing.

I checked Utah Lake out this morning on the way to work. The ice is very grey, with lots of standing water. It is still pretty tight and unless we get some wind to move things around, it will stay unusable and dangerous. Some of the spring ares may be opening up, which will give the wind a start to move it around. The best bet so far is the section north of Lindon Harbor which is open for over a mile along the east shore. There is about 200 yds of open water from the Dump Ditch north. Unfortunately, we don’t get to many easterly winds, but it is a starting point. Keep your dance going and fingers crossed.
Hi Bassrods, any idea how long until we can launch a boat at Jordanelle? I got a new boat that I need to finish breaking in and some trolling for browns might help me out with that. It is also the only open water around this side of the Gorge so should be the first place to get on if we can get a ramp open…[:/][fishin]
I can hardly wait until my boat trailer is back from metal craft. They are adding an axle, swing tongue and surge brakes. By the time it’s done some lakes should be open. I’ve never had spring fever so bad in my life. It has been a mild winter too, can’t figure that out but it is what it is. Melt ice melt!
