Im going to the uinta mountains this weekend pass kamas I was wondering if anyone went to lilly lake, mirror, or butterfly lake. Is there any lilly pads growing up there yet??? Thats my big concert if theres any.
Did anyone fish the high provo river?? How is it? What you used. Are the caddis growing yet?
What is the flies for fly fishing up there.
Im gone be fly fishing a lot so it would be nice to know whats going up there because I haven’t been there since last year.
Haven’t been to any of those 3 lakes in the last 2 weeks. However there are some lily pads growing in lakes at that altitude already. Why do you ask? I doubt you’ll find them too thick yet but maybe I’m wrong. All of the Upper Provo has really come down- very fishable. Caddis are hatching up to 10,000 ft as of yesterday.
Try any fly, hard to go wrong. If still not sure take at least a couple of any of these in size 12-16 humpies, parachute adams, caddis, royal wulff, mosquito, small hoppers, ants, beetles, scuds, midge nymphs, hare’s ear or prince nymphs.
The biting bugs are building again after the weekend’s hard freezes. Be sure to stay covered with long sleeves and have a little bug juice for your hands and around your face.
Lets just say i like lily pads. lol Sounds good that the caddis are coming out. Thats good that the water is still coming down the river i hope its gona be a little more water then last year. Last year was the lowest i ever seen it been up there from my fly fishing experience. Ya usually when i go up to uinta i just stick with caddis. Even on the river :). Ya i know about the mosquitos after the expecience on friday with hiking with ETDT. My arms are govered with bites. Never notice that they would be infested. I shall pack up tons of spray at all time. Lets hope the fishing will be good for me.
Caddis flies are all you need. The Upper Provo has about a tenth as much water as this time last year. I think it will really go low this summer compared to last. I’d look at it as get the fishing in while you still can.
Ya it was depressing when i snowboarding season was here and how low of snow it was so i thought my fav river spots might be low. Lets all hope the fishes will be in my holes. If i catch all fishes with just caddis again I will be happy.
Was up there Sunday…killed them on a simple Royal Wulff and a Royal Humpy. A lot of Grayling which was a blast.
Nothing on Caddis.
what lakes did u go for graylings???
did you hit any of the lake i mention??? did they have lily pads?
The pads were just starting to unfold on the surface of the lake I hit on Sunday. It sits at about 9900’.
Used jigs for some 15-16" brook trout. The bigger brooks don’t come up for flies much. Cutts and grayling will hammer dries though.
Oh sad days i want them to bloom to the fullest lol maybe by july they will be out. Sounds good i know a few stuff for graylings and cuttys >_< That i used on my hiking trip
There was still a lot of snow where we were, no lilly pads. As I mentioned on another post, it was my husband and myself. A friend showed up later. It was a little bay of sorts as the wind was in our face and making casting a bit of a challenge.
We were about 50 to 70 feet apart using the same set-up, BUT, I caught nothing but Grayling, my husband all brookies and the friend, nothing.
On the one lake we hit with a lot of Lilly Pads and little traffic, a Type II line and nymphs or softhackles produces some Brookies of size.
Anything done with lures can be done with flies.
