well after 2 week of hunting cutt’s i finley found one i’m happy with. [sly]..
was headed to E-lake today but along the way i stoped at Cleveland insted.. got all the gear packed up on the snowmobile and headed down the hill.. i first tryed by the springs in 10 feet of water.. well after I went through 4 feet of slush and ice to get to the water.. lol.. i had the auger motor right to the ice before it went through..
ok well back to the fishing.. first spot was a bust.. spent 1 1/2 hours and one bite.. well packed up and headed over to the east side to give it a try.. good call i must say.. after driling 2 more holes in 20 feet of water. cleand out one put the finder in and droped a pole.. as slow as the fishing was at the other spot i thought i would have time to clean the other hole out after i got down.. well just started cleaning the other hole and seen what looked like a fish on the finder. looked over at my pole and sure enugh it was a fish.. set the hook into a nice football rainbow.. well that was better then the other spot where i only got 1 bite in a hour and a half.. so set up the other pole and droped it down..
after about 3 or 4 more football bow’s i seen one jimping up and down off the bottom but not quint get to my jig before droping down again.. so pick up the pole and droped to it.. as soon as it hit the bottom i felt the thump, and as soon as set the hook i knew it was the fish i have been looking for the last 2 weeks.. after a 10 min battle i got it started up the hole and could see it was a cutt.. yeah.. thats what i was looking for.. [sly].. got my new lip gripers out and pulled it the rest the way out.. it was a very nice cutt 5 lbs and 22 inchs.. set it a side for dinner and set about to try for another just like it.. but it was not to be.. hit 4 or 5 more smaller bows and then about 2:30 it just went dead!! so being the hard core guy i am i stuck it out tell about 4:00 with out a bite and called it a day..
Ron, congrats on the fine fish. That may just about wrap the fishing contest up for you for another year. I have a hunch that you had Cleveland all to yourself.
you got that right about being the only one on the lake tho.. i’m about the only fool that would even try to get down in there this time of year! lol [sly]..

well to tell ya the truth i’m about ready for some soft water my self.. i realy like ice fishing but i’m about spent this year.. [sly] plus i’m looking forwored to hutting some big splake at JV and some pike at yuba.. with some laker’s mixed in at FG and fish lake.. lol [sly]..

dang fuzzy thats one fat cutt!!! in the first pic you can see a chunk of a fin missing, did you cut some off for bait?lol i wish strawberry cutts were as healthy as that one. congratts an your mission for a nice cut.

all the fin’s were intacked right up to the point i cut it up for the frying pan.. i must say that was one tasty fish!! [sly]
Definitely a nice cutt…BUT, I couldn’t help but notice that the fish looks to be much closer to 21 inches than 22. Is this the classic case of a fisherman exaggerating just a bit?[;)]
To the best engineering practices with straight line technique we have established that your final dead length exceeds 21 but does not meet the requirements of 22 inches. See the attached photo to see that you are 21 and 3/4 inches. You should have stepped on the fish one time lightly to meet the objective. From your friend,
I was told by a fish and game officer that was checking my license that you could measure the fish from the tail tip to the lip or that you could squeeze the fish tail together to make the 22 inches. It looks to me like it is definitely over 22 by that standard.
I have noticed however, that if you keep a fish too close to 22 inches, they seem to shrink after they die. So I am not sure what they would do in that case.
the best engineering practices is to put the tape acrosst the top of the fish from tail to lip.. in that cast it would have been 22 3/4 inch’s!! as you allredy know you lose 1/2 to 3/4 of a inch putting the tape on the outside of the fish laying flat on the ice! the fatter the fish the more ya lose becouse the head and tail droop down to the tapes strate line.. and you can’t see it in 2D you can only see it in 3D..
