I’ve never fished it, though I’ve been up there quite a bit in the fall. I might be headed up there with some family this upcoming weekend. Any tips? I tend to target panfish in the winter, but I figured since we would be up in that area, I might as well go for some cutts.
Any info would be appreciated.
thats my primary ice fishing spot! good call on hitting the ice while up there, on the east shore closer to the dam there are a couple points. I’ll start about 40 yards off the shore on one of those points drill & then work my out from shore throughout the day. not big fish but generally a lot of fish.
I have fished it a number of times. I haven,t been up there this year but sometimes the road in can be a problem. Most of the time it has had a plow on it. If you have a snow machine, ride over to where the river runs into the lake. I have caught a number of fish there. Most of the time if I fish where it starts to open up into the main body of the lake. I have had great success with a white Foxy jig tipped with a meal worm. Good Luck
Thanks for the help motobott and biggfish12. Do the cutts hang out on the bottom, or do they tend to be suspended? I won’t have a fishfinder with me. I had one last year, but it crapped out on me.
There has been times went I have caught them at all depts. Last year on my first trip up my jig never made it to the bottom for the first hour I was there. Most of the times however it was 2 to 3 cranks of my reel off the bottom. If you do not have a fish finder I would start at that depth and then adjust if you need to.
If your not in the market for a fish finder I would highly recomend buying the 2nd pole permit and fishing two poles at different depths to find the fish, and by the way when you find the fish you probably won’t have much time for that second pole until it starts to slow down. I have had my best luck in the morning in 10-20 feet of water. Good Luck!
I have been up there twice since December. The best fishing was on the first trip. The last trip was very slow. The first time we went up the east side the second time we tried the west side. We usually get them from 12-25 feet of water using wax worms or night crawlers. The road was plowed on our last trip and wasn’t hard to get in. The fish we have caught this year were a bit bigger than last year. There was about 10 inches of ice on new years day.
