been a crazy week and weekend. This is a late post, but better later than never.
The wife and I opted to stay in Utah for our summer vacation this year. Instead of heading NW to Brownlee, we decided to finally try Starvation. I’ll limit this so it does not get boring, just day high lights..
Sunday 18th - Got up to set up camp with some friends. WET1 was there already. went with him for the night bite and launched right at dark. trolled a lot of shorline, ended up with one big 'bow, about 3lbs?
Monday 19th - took friends and their kids out. started trolling. 2 hook ups but the kids didn’t land anything.
few dink perch below the bridge. Windy by 1. talked with WET1 off and on most of the day, he was doing better than us, but the kids had lost interest by now.
Tuesday - Friends left and we set out to trolling early in the Breeze. Couple of wacks, but no hook ups. went into Rabbit and seen Tubedude and his posse. We ended up with 3 keeper perch and about 2 doz lost worms. I am pretty sure, to be a perch in Starvation, you must pass Worm Stealing 101. windy at 12.00 - 1. This is vacation so we went to town and had some dinner. Wind laid down around 7 ish. ran back to camp, launched for the evening bite. The wife went to park the trailer, didn’t swing wide enough when pulling around a fellas truck and drug the trailer across his bumper. All freaked out, she was standing in the parking lot looking down at me on the docks screaming something about “get up here, i just hit someone!” Backed the trailer off his truck with no extra damage. tennis ball size dent with a crease about 2 inches long in it. Loaded the boat back up, wrote a note and left it on the guys windshield. went back to camp and the wife mixed a drink. she was a little upset. the truck owner showed up in camp just at dark with a DNR officer. Gave him all our info and they were on the way.
Wednesday - morning breeze never really laid down, just got a little stronger as the day progressed. trolled through all the surfacing trout. not a hit. Finally boated our first keeper 'eye of the trip. shore casting a wall north east of the dam. got couple nice small mouth in the process. back to Rabbit for 3-4 more keeper perch. Had friends show up Wed night, after cooking for the whole crew (7) no time for the evening bite. very windy and got rained on several times. terrific lightening show. not sure we would have went out anyway. Windy all day.
Thursday - started off better, after about 10 min of trolling for anything that would hit, the wife landed a 2-2.5 lb slimer. no other takers, so we starting shore casting the same wall. Wife hooked up with her first ever keeper walleye. she had caught a few of the 6inchers mixed in with the perch, but this was her first keeper. Very jacked. 2 brothers, my mom and my nephew showed up. picked them up for a shiort boat ride to the bridge and back. found a distressed, flag waving boat of people. towed them back to the islands where they had friends in a camp on shore. camp sent out a jet ski and we were finally on our rabbit, and again, about 100 dinks and 4-5 keeper perch, but only lost about 1.5 doz worms.
Windy at 1. Thurs night was a planned B day dinner for a couple of the friends. no evening fish., but hey, PACKFAN and his wife showed up. Chatted with them after dinner over a few cold beverages. Very nice people. Hope we can meet up and fish with them some day. I think the pontoon is big enough that we can all 4 go out together and catch some wipers.
Really feeling our age at this point with the wind and sun taking it’s toll. paid up through Sat for the spot, but we are thinking it’s time to go home.
Friday - windy, morning breeze never stopped. fished for perch till i was tired of fighting the wind. i think we boated 2-3 keepers. back to camp for brkfst by 10:00. we are definatly leaving today. after some eggs and sausage, we picked up the firends and all the kids and went below the bridge. kids swam a little. PACKFAN trolled by, didn’t sound like he was having much luck, but had boated a few fish. Kids had a hard time staying with the boat in all the wind. ENOUGH! headed back and packed up camp. the wind was blowing hard enough that when we tried to fold up the new springbar, it went into “sail mode” thought it was going to break my wifes arm. PACKFAN came back in off the water and shared his report. finished packing, took a shower and headed home.
not many pics, but a few.
