Strawberry 1/28

Headed up to Strawberry with YoungFish today. Went to the Soldier Creek side in hopes of driving to the Dam. Well after turning off the road we made it to the first turn off and the snow jumped up quite a bit. So we decided not to risk it.

Backed up and noticed some people parked down by the lake. We almost drove down before we noticed that they were stuck down there. We parked where we were and walked down. After a couple people had already passed them and I happened to know who they were we helped them get not one but two vehicles out and continued on our way. Hate seeing people pass by those who get stuck. We all make mistakes but if I were in that position I would want the help and have had the help before.

First spot we hit was 20 ft of water. The ice was as thick as my metal scoop (12-15 inches never actually measured it). Solid and clear all the way through. Had a couple hits but nothing great. So we decided to move. I had to walk back up to the truck before we did. Forgot to grab my license from the center console. Whoops!

Second spot was 37 ft of water. Got the fish finder to work after warming it up and it was game on. Lots of planter rainbows! A couple of nice cutts and took a 4 pack of bows for the smoker. It was fun to watch the fish finder go crazy as they came through in schools. Big and small bows and cutts all together. At one point we couldn’t get our poles back in the water fast enough. They continued to come and go till we left at two. We used White, green, and glow tube and paddle jigs. They ranged from about 8 ft down to about 21 ft down. Never did get the ones from the bottom to bite and hold. The secret today seemed to be a little bit of jigging and at least a pole with some sort of flasher. Also, they seemed to be hitting lite at times so bring out those indicators.

Lots and lots of people on the ice. Snowmobiles worked good but the four wheelers definitely had a hard time getting through the 6 inches of powder. The snow wasn’t packing very well.

Did not see very many people move. I had imagined they had they same luck except one person told us he didn’t get a bite [pirate]. All in all good day! Will post pictures tomorrow I’m tired!

Glad to meet you YoungFish. Next time it’ll be your turn to get the 22 inch cutt!

Nice report Macfisher. Headed up there this Fri and Sat.Hope to get into some big fish.:sunglasses:

I forgot to mention that we could see our lures down to about 14 ft. It was fun to watch the little bows come and attack our lures when they came through. I believe we caught fish on chub, night crawler, meal worm, and wax worm. Good luck to you and I look forward to hearing how you do.

Hey thanks for the info. Will try to report late Sat.or Sun.:sunglasses:

Make sure you bring some extra money so I can take it from ya. [;)]

thanks for the help, that was my father-in-law and little brother. I can only assume who this is B.M.? we had about the same luck out there, by far the slowest it has been the last few weekends i have been up there. Still good fishing though. You guys should enter my contest up there at Soldier Creek on Feb. 11th. check it out at ksl.com under the fishing classifieds or send me a friend request on FB Nick Brown and i can send you an invite with all the info.

Yeah thats me Nick. Yeah it didn’t seem like anyone really had to move around. Fish just came through in schools at a time.

I would come up to your tourney but unfortunately I have to go play Army that weekend. Sounds like it will be a good time though. Just don’t let anyone get stuck again[:p]!

Good luck to you and I hope that it grows next year!
