Decided to try to hit Strawberry today. Was expecting lots of slush on the ice, but was pleasantly surprised to find none at Soldier Creek.
We parked at the Soldier Creek Dam turn off and rode in on sleds. Plan was to hit the Dam area. One of our sleds broke down on the way in, so we didn’t make it over there. Spent the first hour towing out a snowmobile… Being on the ice at 7 and not fishing till 830 was not fun.
Finally got set up to fish south of the bathrooms in that big bay instead.
Caught tons of small bows and a few larger 16-18 inch bows. Several Cutthroat as well, but nothing larger than 22. It was sunny and warm all day.
Saw several 2WD outfits get stuck trying to drive down the Soldier Creek Dam road. The drifted snow on the road is deep and soft. 4WD trucks didn’t have a problem.
The 3 younglings in our group put the hurt on the fish. CJ, ZZ, and KZ have it all figured out. We stayed in 13-15 ft of water and didn’t move all day.
The fishing was fairly constant all day with ice flies, gazillas, paddlebugs, and other jigs. White, chartreuse and pink all seemed to produce for our group today.
We left at 2 because of other commitments, but would have loved to stay longer…
Wondering what the slush was like from other places on the lake. I would love to hear from some of the other BFTers that were up there around various parts of the lake today.
