Had some spare time and got thinking about places in Utah that I’ve fished. With the discussions about what fish people have caught, I wondered about the diversity of fishing waters people go to.
I don’t want to take up space listing places I’ve gone to but in 35 years of fishing Utah I can recall at least 98 lakes and streams I’ve fished at. What a great state! I hope to add another 8 to 10 more next year.
I’ve also fished at least 24 other waters in 6 other states and Canada. Not braggin, but it brought back some good memories and thought of places I’d like to visit again.
I’ve not fished as many places as you have and since I live in Utah County, I fish Strawberry, Scofield and Deer Creek as much as the next guy. However, I love to hit Gooseberry at least a couple times in the summer. The fly-fishing is great up there in the summer.
I still have yet to go to the Boulders, but going there very soon is a top priority for me.
Well it would take a long time to think of all the waters i’ve hit and count them all, but counting fish species is easier cause I keep a numbers and species log just for fun annually. This year I caught 21 species. All the species and hybrids of trout. Brown, brook, tiger, splake, cutthroat, albino rainbow, rainbow, lake. Wiper, tiger muskie, bass (lmb,smb), wiper, walleye, white bass, perch, bluegills, green sunfish, hybrid bluegills crossed with green sunfish, bullhead catfish and channel cats. Still need to catch a grayling, cutbow, and kokanee. Oh and maybe a whitefish. lol.
Off the top of my head I couldn’t even fathom to think how many places I’ve fished in Utah. I’ve even fished high mountain lakes that I later found out had no fish [:(] (but the deer hunting is good). Out of state I’ve fished CA, VA, FL, TX, NV, AZ, WY, NC, SC, (whatever Maryland is MD?), GA, and KY.
I love fishing in Utah, there are well known places and not-so well known places, let alone private land. There are all sorts of species to be caught in Utah, some are not even recognized by the DWR but still like to be caught. Good post.
