Scofield 12/31

We fished Scofield on the South West corner of the dam area yesterday. We began about 8:30 to 3 and, with 2nd pole permits, my bro-in-law and I, using four poles had hits nearly continually the entire time. We landed between 30 and 40. Most were small to…very small. We had half a dozen that were roughly the length of your hand. Most were between 8 and 14". We did have one tiger that measured about 18" but that was huge compared to the rest. We used paddle bugs, gitzits, a bare hook with mealie and even a large jig given to us last year by Fuzzy while fishing with him at Joes Valley. Everything we used was being tagged as soon as we brought it up off of the bottom. Most were simply too small to latch on properly. Caught mostly bows and cuts. Did not see a chub. Heard a lot of noise from the groups to the north of us as they landed fish. Not sure if the size of the fish was great or if their drink was helping the outing. It was entertaining to listen to!
The slush monster has gone south due to the recent chill that has come to us lately. Ice was nearly a foot thick and there was only a few inches of snow to tread through on the pond. It was a good outing although some larger sizes would have been nice to ice.
As a side note, although there were many strikes to keep you entertained down there and many chances to land fish, beware of the hike back up the hill to the parking lot as it is as brutal a walk as we have made. Save your money on Gold’s gym and pull a sled up that monster every day! Whew!
