We braved the snow and hit Scofield today. The roads were snow packed and a mess both ways. We fished @ 18 ft. and did best with a white or glow tube with chub meat. We did get hits on other popular rigs. The slush was all froze up with plenty of good ice. It snowed enough to cover our tracks while we were there. Cookie cutter bows and cutts @ 10-12 inches with only a couple chubs. Kids had fun and a good day overall.
I was also up there with a couple of good buddies. We were over by the island. This was my first time ever to Scofield and I had a good time. I ended up catching 12 (13 including the one chub I caught and used for bait). No tigers for me but one of my buddies landed one. One rainbow and the rest were cutthroats. Had a few that were close to 15-16 inches but man were they skinny. All went back for your kids to catch. The other guys in my group did better than I did. I believe one caught an even 20. I think trout have something against Texans. ![]()
I was using a lot of stuff that I use for gills and crappie. I don’t know if it really made that much of a difference. We had everything from small tube jigs to ice flies and cutter bugs (I took them just for Pikeman’s sake[;)]) and caught fish on all of it. I was glad I took my tent. That wind was kinda bitter at times but I was warm and toasty. Ice was nearly 12 inches in some spots and a good 8 inches at others. Friday will probably be a little nicer weather-wise.
