Hit the view early AM. Browning point. Started with the first hole @45’ then moved shallower. 20’ was the key. Non stop action till 10am. Came home with 75 keepers for both of us (8+"), and let many many many more smaller ones go. It was nice at 20’ as they went straight down to the bottom, no problems. Schools would swim thru that were about 4-5’ thick off the bottom and we got many doubles. Small Green ice flies with perch eye were the ticket. Meat and worms were out-fished 2:1 with eyes.
Nope. Had some that were heavy and lost a few that were great ones, but those fall under the “ones that got away” category.
Caught crappie last week 40 out of 60’ in narrows. They were holding right @ 40 and if you were a few inches too high or low they wouldn’t even look at ya. Light bite.
Edges look great for people and ice off of the point was clear and 6"+, great condition. No slush and very slippery tho. saw 2 atv’s near the area we were in. Snow was coming down when we left.
Thanks for the report! Looks like you have a good time. We should be up there tomorrow around cemetery point. We’ll see if our luck was as good as yours. [;)]
I think you should do fine. Just make sure to move if you are not catching as many as you would like to be. We stayed away from the crowds and fared much better.
Nice haul! I had similar success last weekend at Pineview. Decided to try Mantua again today and boy has it slowed way down. Not sure if it’s cause of the weather, low oxygen or what but I think I’ll wait at least a month before trying it again. Pineview is just as close for me and is fishing better so that’ll be my “go to” place for now.
I was out yesterday(1-22) on 4-wheeler. We got on at Port Ramp no problem, although the parking area was a bit tricky to negotiate with a trailer.
As for our catch, took a few scouts out in the afternoon and caught “enough” for a fry on the ice. If it were just my bro and I we would have probably faired better but we were there for the kids this time.
