Been away for quite some time but ready to hit the ice again. I am thinking about taking a young lady on her first ice trip this wed. and we were thinking perch. Where have they been finding them rockport or echo seem to be top billing right now. Any hints as to where, what depth etc would be appreciated
Watch for the reports, I’m thinking Yuba is where she can catch 10 pretty easy. Rockport, maybe a few perch with a bonus trout.
I was up to Rockport last week.. Did see a few nice perch hit the ice.. Lots of smaller ones.. Few bows also.. Nothing like two years ago.. But picking up..
yuba would be your best bet for a easy score of perch! and if ya get you 10 limit there. there are other lakes in the area that have been doing good for some trout.. redmond’s is only 20 min’s from painted rock and is a great place to catch pike.. just take you long rod’s there, it dont freeze over ever.. lol

I would give Echo a try. The perch are right on the bottom. A swedish pimple with waxie seems to work fine.
I fished Echo twice last week with two buddies who are new to perch fishing. And I was able to get perch on their lines. I was there for the perch, but picked up some trout both days. Fished 27-30 feet of water. I didn’t really find anything that didn’t work. But tipped with perch meat was probably better then mealworms or nightcrawlers.
Every time the bite died we would reel up about 1.5-2.5 feet and pick them up again. When it died again, we would drop down to within inches of the bottom.

Thanks guys, I am thinking this trip we will hit Echo. Have they been fishing near the dam. I usually use the standard Ice fly below a sweedish pimple tipped with waxies. I would love to see this girl get a few perch and possibly a trout or two. If anybody has a more recent report would love to hear it
