Pelican on Saturday

Spent a great day on Pelican, running the boat for a couple of young, up and coming bass fisherman. It was the second Jr. Toury for the TBF Juniors. Only problem was that one of the kids kept talking smack at me, until I learned that Scott at the Midvale Sportsman’s has been a mentor to him. That explains it all.

Fishing was pretty good for 10 -11 inchers. My guys started off with spinner baits, then switched to green senkos and caught fish all day. Both were able to weigh two keepers, but lacked a kicker fish. The lake was in great shape, little or no wind, most water I have seen in Pelican for a long time. Water temp started off at 57-58 and warmed to 62-64 later in the day.

After the kids weighed in, I went back out and fought the wind. I was able to catch about 2 dozen on a spinner bait. I tried to throw a jig and flip a worm, but the wind was to strong. had to put the nose of the boat into the wind and throw upwind. When I could get it to fall and then slow roll it back, the small bass just hammered it.

If the weather stabilizes, everyone should be up on the beds within a week. Very few bugs out yet and the reeds are just starting to grow.

Nice report..
