5" of nice black ice where we were at. Just a little layer of snow on the top so it was not slick at all.
Saw bit of open water about half way up the res. It looked only be about 10’ wide by 50’ long.
Fished from about 8 am. to 2:30 pm.
The bite was not real fast but fish schooled through the whole time we were there. We would catch from 1 to 3 fish and then have to wait from 10 min. to 15 min. before they came through again.
Caught I would guess 5 or so that were dinks but the others were decent fish. 1 1/4 pounds and up to the largest scaling in at 4 lbs. 9 oz.
We fished in 12’ water. Most fish were caught near the bottom. Most productive lure was kastmaster constantly jigged with short pauses. Most fish took while it was being jigged. 1/64 oz. jigs also worked but not as well. The fish seemed to like them moving also. We were tipping with night crawler.
There was a group a little way off that was tipping with meal worm and were not doing nowhere near as well.
Met a guy in the Provo Sportsman that was heading up there tomorrow morning with his two boys. Hope he has the same day you had. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the report and update on ice conditions at both lakes. Sounds like a fun trip. Any pics of that big one? That lake use to have some toads in it, sounds like it still does
.
Thanks for your post. We were wondering how the ice was looking at Otter Creek and your post seals the deal and we will be there on New Year’s Day. If you happen to be in the area look for a guy catching lots of fish, and an ice tent – I will be fishing nearby to both of them.
Caught these fish in late fall in otter creek. Noticed you were asking about some photos so here ya go!! And yes there still some BIG fish there. These were released.
Nice, those are some toads, thanks for sharing the pics.
