Three of us fished MM today and did very well on the perch. There were two other parties fishing in the boat ramp area. Ice conditions are still very good with solid edges and very little slush in the areas of heaviest fishing activity.
We caught MANY perch today using perch meat and eyes and sometimes small pieces of nightcrawlers. We kept about 45 of the larger perch which were in the 7 to 9.5 inch range. We caught only one trout but it was a fat 18 inch rainbow that also made the trip home. I believe MM will continue to be fishable even with the warming conditions. I did find one area with some slush across the UM Creek bay from the boat ramp and toward the far shoreline. There was about two inches of ice, then a slush layer about a foot deep and then solid ice. I broke through one time and didn’t get wet but that area could be trouble on a warm afternoon.
