Mill Meadow

Does any one know if Mill Meadow is iced up yet. I need to scratch the Ice Itch.

According to the DNR report mill meadow is icing up with possible fishable ice by this weekend.

I called the DWR down south to get some more information on their post that they put on their website. They told me that they expect 4 inches or more by today and tomorrow. That is safe to me:) I am headed down this weekend. So help me! They better be right, cause that is a 2.5 hour drive. They expect the fishing to be good as always, especially with the water level being a little bit lower. I hope that helps.

Thank you both.
utefisherman that sounds safe to me. I will get a few hours sleep and head out. If you are there tomorrow I hope we get a chance to meet.

I will be there sometime after 7 AM. I will be in a large red eskimo tent with 3 other people. Hope to see you there.

Sweet!! I probably wont get there till 9am but I will stop by to say hello.

How was the fishing I want to go down but it 3 hours

It was fair. For some reason the perch action was not at its usual level. I actually caught more trout than perch. 3 hours fishing with only 6 perch to bring home. We did throw a few back. Perhaps it was just an off day.

How thick was the ice?

Ice was 6" in most areas. We did dig a couple of holes that were even 8 inches. Totally solid, and slicker than grease. I did not come prepared with ice cleats and I ate it twice.

Yea, I hate that slick ice without cleats . Thanks for the post.

Thanks for the info it helps out a lot

utefisherman,
It was nice to meet you. It was likewise slow for us but the last hour of light made up for a lot of the slow time during the day. we ended up moving across to the far side and thats where we had the best luck. We had fun chasing poles for that last hour. I think the full moon had a lot to do with how slow the perch fishing was.
In summary the fishing was great  , the weather was awesome :sunglasses: , the company was exceptional  and the catching over all slow [unimpressed].

whats a good rig at mill medows

Brookie,
If you are after perch think on the smaller side Ratsos, ice flys or Gizzy bugs under a sm cast master. I like to bait both. White, lite green, pink and glow all seem to work well at times. As far as bait I like a small piece of worm.
If you want to tip the scale towards trout Try all of the afore mentioned items or a curly tail gig fished solo. Tip with wax worms or perch meat. These are imho a good place to start.
Good luck and tight lines.

Glad you got some fish at least AND the ice you were on was more than 2.5 inches. I have been considering a trip down there for some perch action. Did you get any perch over 10 inches long?

Ya, glad you are alive from Utah lake! I caught one perch that was 9-10 inches. The others that I kept were 8 inches or so. Only a couple were real dinkers. You should head down. We are going to go back the middle of next week and move around some more to see if we can’t get into the perch a little bit better.[reply][/reply]

are there muskies in MMR. i saw something online about it?

seems like a few years back thap put some in to control the perch but I have not seen or heard of them lately

My understanding is that because they are in Jonson R. and Mill Meadow is down stream there is a possibility of catching them in Mill Meadow. You could check the udfw web site for more imfo I belive thats where I read about it.
