A friend and I are headed down to Mill Meadow in the morning. Anyone fished it recently? We will be prepared with a board in case the edges are still a little soft. I will post a report tomorrow evening when we get home.
I am looking forward to trying out the new software upgrade on my Showdown finder.

A friend and I fished it just over a week ago and did very well for perch and trout. It was steady for most of the morning. We did leave a plank there just off of the ramp so that more people could get out there. The ice is plenty thick. Let us know how you do.
Where is Mill Meadow?
Millmeadow is about 10 miles north of Loa. i fished it Christmas Eve. lots of perch but not much size to them. Fun place to take the kids.
17 miles from fish lake, excellent fishing if you are looking for catching a lot of fish, but nothing of great size.
My friend Alan and I got to Mill Meadow at about 0900 this morning and we were somewhat surprised to see four vehicles parked at the boat ramp. We got out on the ice and started fishing in about 15 feet of water. The action was fast and non-stop for perch in the 5-9 inch range and quite a few brown trout in the 12 to 18 inch range. The browns are a little snaky in Mill Meadow but they are fun to catch. All the trout went back to the lake. The perch in the larger size range were invited to dinner at home.
Pikeman99 and his partner Jay arrived a little later and it was a pleasure to meet them and share some stories of mutual friends. Pikeman is a fishing machine and is very knowledgeable about the gear and methods to ice the fish.
During the mid morning people kept showing up. At one time there were twelve vehicles in the boat ramp area and at least 30 to 35 people out on the ice. There were many kids due to school being out. The perch action was pretty consistent for most of the folks and the weather was nice for the kids.
I’m glad I got over there today before tomorrow’s approaching storm.
Mill Meadow is one of those lakes than can only benefit from a heavy harvest of the perch. I believe the dam work is planned for next summer, so the lake may be drained all the way to assist with the repairs.
Take the kids and get some tasty panfish to take home for a real treat.
Ice conditions were good. Ice on the lake is about 10 to 12 inches and solid. The edges were frozen this morning and there was no problem getting onto the ice. When we left at 4:00 p.m. there was a little water around the edge but we didn’t need our board to get back on dry land. The very cold temperatures forecast for this weekend will freeze the edges and access should not be a problem.
Edit: We were using a small ice jig about 8 inches below an attractor like a Stinger or Kastmaster. We tipped the jig with a small strip of perch belly. I just finished filleting the perch this morning (12-29) and the larger ones were right at 10 inches, the smaller ones were 9 inches.
