Hit Mantua for a couple hours on sat. It was pretty slow, ended up boating two, biggest one was 2.14. Caught it crankin in about 10 feet of water. Things should be heating up here soon.

Water is pretty clear. When I hold em close it takes the attention off my ugly mug.
I worked the whole back side of the lake on Sunday from shore without even one bite. Good job on getting a couple.

I was up there on Sunday it was slow for me too. The only excitement I had was getting buzzed by a ski boat every 2min. They kept getting so close to me and 5 or 6 other guys on pontoons. Same red boat over and over!!
Honestly any day now and it should pick up a lot. Soon as it does ooooooh baby! The only thing harder than the fishing up there right now is trying to get 5 dollars in change through that little slot in the drop box.
I don’t understand why Barney doesn’t go after the boats that harass others on the water. He sure likes to mess with everyone on the shore.

Next time that happens to me, I might accidentally cast my rapala into their boat. Then set the hook when I feel a tug. When they start yelling at me, I will just say I thought I hooked a monster bass.

They are in violation of a state boating safety law…not just Mantua. Take a picture of the boat with bow numbers and report them. I have had instances in the past that as soon as I brought up my camera the boat swerved off and did not return. They know exactly what they are doing…and what they are doing wrong.
I had one guy ask me “Why are you taking my picture?” I told him I was a writer for a magazine about boating and I had a column called “Idiots of the month”. I assured him he would have first position.
Yes they are. I plan on keeping my real camera (not my phone) right next to me this summer - especially out at Newton. It is annoying, especially when whatever body of water you are on is sparse with people and the only other boat out there has to come within yards of you. Last year, that happened and it almost swamped my little boat - and my 1 1/2 year old son was in my boat with me.
It’s one thing if your by yourself but when you’ve got your kids, man I would have flipped.
Worse part is those A holes usually have their kids with them, what a great example they’re setting. That’s the whole reason I won’t take my family there too many dip shizas.
Agreed. I won’t take my kids out there with me anymore. It really ticked me off. Water came in the boat. I was more worried about making sure I got the boat and my son situated than going and trying to chew them a new one. I only had a trolling motor on anyways. I just got back to where the rest of the family was and decided to stay with them the rest of the day. Sad that we have morons like that out here, but they are everywhere.
Makes me wonder if/when they will ever ‘regulate’ small lakes like Newton? It just can’t be shared with fishermen and skiers alike…not without mishaps and safety issues.
I smell a usage fee coming to Newton within 5 yrs or so.

Really in the summer you can’t legally drive by anyone on that pond there’s not enough room. It’s gonna take someone getting killed for the parks and rec to do something about it, which is just sad.

It happened on Pineview last year. Killed the poor lady who was swimming in a cove and a couple (3) guys in a boat ran her down. They speed off after asking her if she was OK… she wasn’t. They are awaiting trial now.
Mantua is to small for fast boats. I can row across it from end to end in about 15 minutes.

Could I ask you for some advise on crank baits. Last Sunday I was throwing square lip cranks in white with char. highlights and another with a baby bass colored. What works for you?
