Mantua - So my twin and I invited some BFT’ers along to join us on Sunday. We got JLG78, MarineSpear, and CvFisher to go along. My twin and CvFisher went out in a boat while the other 2 guys followed me to our old spot at 1:30pm. My old spot at the southeast corner of the lake only produced 2 LMB’s at 11inches long and within a hour so we decided to head in. I called my twin and he already got 12 LMB’s and plenty of bluegills at the knoll.
MarineSpear and JLG78 headed to the dike along the west end to bank tangle while I got into the boat with my twin and Live2fish. We fished from the boat at the knoll until 7:40pm. It was ON FIRE!!! On the way home my front tire blew out at Willard Bay. I think a kamakazi bluegill was to blame.
Totals:
Me - 2 LMB’s, 19 Bluegills, 7 yellow Perch.
CvFisher - A little more than us in the gill and perch numbers except in the LMB department. 2 LMB’s and 1 green sunfish.
MarineSpear - 11 LMB’s. His was the biggest of the day at 16.5 inches and 3 pounds.
JLG78 - 10 bluegils and 8 LMB’s.
Tactics for these fish!
LMB’s- Most of my twin’s were landed on a panther martin rainbow spinner size #2. One of mine came on a worm and bobber and another on a Blue Fox Gold size #2 tipped with a nightcrawler. One was caught trolling. For the west dike guys a senko worm rigged wacky worked the best but a few were landed on 3 consecutive casts with a black woolybugger.
Bluegills - Most were caught by using a black jig sometimes with or without a bobber. Black curly tails worked too. My twin and I were using a “tube dude special” black sparkley thingy all of which were tipped with a nightcrawler. A few of my twin’s were caught using a Panther Martin rainbow spinner in size #2. Even 1 was caught trolling with this spinner.
Yellow Perch - The black jigs tipped with a nightcrawler mentioned above worked the best on them.
Green Sunfish - A black curly tail jig with a nightcrawler under a bobber.
poor poor poor bass. keep lookin at that bottom right guy, he was about to break through, you have to title reports like this “warning, graphic and disturbing images, view at own risk.” [pirate] but how was the boat traffic? I was gonna head out one more time, not sure tho. tore up the doves on thursday! yep, thought of killing a bass makes me cry but I’ll shoot doves! pot meet kettle! [:p]
Sounds like a “productive” day a Mantua.
I’m guessing that’s a ‘combined’ stringer’s worth? Up until this year they had a ‘only 1 over 12" regulation’ on that water. I got beat up on a post of a handful of Gills and 2 bass, only 1 of which was over 12" - between two of us.
So as CVfisher sez - to each his own. I hope you’ve taken TDs advice and got yourself an electric fillet knife. I’ll tell you - a bucket load of perch off the ice - and I was sold. Still tuff to get through a bony carp, or FROZEN catfish (thanks Lunker! talk about a challenge!)
So all those fish, but not a single Trout! What’s up with that lake, it is DEAD like Scofield or something???

I got to get me a fillet knife that is electric. We made that comment to each other last night.
I know we only saw 1 dead trout floating in the water. So far with all my trips to mantua I have only had one trout on the line and it got off the hook just under the toon while I was trying to get my net loose. At least we finally found some yellow perch at Matua this year. I do see fly guys getting into trout at the inlet from time to time though so they are in there.

No water skiers to speak of! Amazing for mantua. I think there was one boat just flying around the lake and there were 6 other fishing boats. It was glassy as could be.
Did you eat the doves? At least my bass get eaten and not wasted!
We heard a little kid crying on the beach and we kept joking “did someone invite UtahGolf up here?” Just kidding bro.
we took the doves and placed them in the neighbors mail box! funny as he!! to see them reach for the mail and feel a dove!!! of course we ate them, doves are a hundred times better than fish, can’t wait for duck season! mmm!!!

I love birds, you love bass. At least we were still able to stand each other’s company while we went fishing. Still give me a chance to kill and eat a bird and I would not hesitate. Then again you don’t see me out hunting do ya?
sorry but i cant stop. LMAO
1.25 bass per hour.
This is not a bassacre Fishin wise, killin wise ok. chicken wings might be a cheaper option for u, plus more meat. I would smash my rods and put my head in my livewell, then I would beg someone to step on the lid.
Yep you boys got your basses kicked. lol[pirate][pirate]
Had a blast fishing with you guys up there. 15 Largemouth Bass in a half day is a personal best for me at that water. Maybe you shoula mentioned that I released 9 LMB’s and 10 Bluegills (what a rare sight). That tire blowout sucked! Maybe the bass gods were as unhappy as the people on this site[;)]. Wish I coulda hooked into some trout. That was the main reason why CVfisher and I started trolling. After I picked up a Bluegill, and he got a small LMB, we started pulling in too many weeds to count so we gave up on the trout hunt. If only we coulda got a Rainbow and a Cutt we woulda had every species in the lake! Still having trouble believing that Marinespear never got a bluegill! How is that possible? I eventually took off my “tube dude special” to STOP getting bluegills on my line. That rainbow trout Panther Martin is the right stuff for the LMB’s up there. 14 of mine were caught (or tricked) on that spinner and only 1 on the “tube dude special”. All in all what a great day at the Mantua.
How the hell do you figure? I never did fish for bass, only bluegill / perch. If you would like a little bass fishing contest on that lake, let me know, I’ll kick your bass big time.

Chicken maybe cheaper…but they don’t put up the strong fight like those bigger LMB’s. Didn’t know you’d put yourself through all that pain just for CATCHING some fish dude. Maybe you just like fishing instead of Catching[;)]. I think we are opposite when it comes to that! I hate FISHING but I LOVE CATCHING. Catching LMB’s, perch and bluegill is my business…and business is good my friend. Happy fishing dude.
If bassin is your buisness then your going under haha anyone can catch 10 inch bass, whoopie doooo … why dont u post when u catch some bass over 10 inches … I would be ashamed to post bass like that especially from mantua and especially on your kitchen counter. [sly] congrats on your feast though thats quite a bag o’pan nibbles.
What are you boys up to tomorrow? ? I think u should go have a bassacre at EC!!!
Nice harvest! Too bad they gotta knock you for staying within the limits of the law. I guess it’s just a thing out here. Bass are delicious. I grew up in Alabama. Tons of bass to eat down there, and believe me, we did. I will be heading back there as soon as I am done with school. Mantua is a fun little place. Last year I posted a pic of ONE bass I kept and got ripped apart. No worries, though. Like you said, you love the taste of bass - so do I. So we shall eat what we catch. That is what they are there for! Again, good on ya’ for the nice haul!

There is just NO pleasing you Utcatman (can you say jelous)…why don’t you keep your hateful tyedye basing comments to yourself. You don’t see me blasting every single one of your posts dude. And for the record…the majority of those LMB’s pictured are 11-13 inches…so I guess…according to your standards…I can post them up. Next time I’ll be sure to beat the bigger bass in the head and give the TM’s an extra long sun tan before I release them…just for you Utcatman.
