Mantua 8/17

Long time snooper, first time poster
Now that I’m all done with school I can stop living vicariously through this website - and actually fish myself.

Arrived at Mantua around 7:00 am with the old caddis tube and a good friend. Fishing was hot for the first hour for blue gill and rainbows. I decided to use a fly and a bubble set up. First fish was a nice sized - but deformed - blue gill. The first hour totaled 4 rainbows (biggest 18" - smallest 16") and about a million blue gill - couldn’t keep’em off.

Once the sun hit the fishing died off and only blue gill and a few tiny perch for the next hour or two. My friend tried the pond but only landed a few micro bass.

At about 10:30 I found a nice deep hole between the weed beds that produced 3 largemouth and 6 more rainbows. Had to leave by 11 - which was too bad. Can’t complain - it was a good 4 hours of fishing.

Nice variety there. That is one funky looking 'gill. Nice sized perch and trout!

Whoa, that bluegill IS deformed. I was expecting a messed up mouth but a chunk out of the back, wild!

What side of Mantua were you fishing? I have heard a couple of reports now of decent LMB being caught there.

Nice report- and welcome. Looks like you got the grandslam on that there pond. Those slimers should look - well, slimy! Well done!

I think a Tiger Musky musta taken a chunk out of it! teehee.

Something is going on out there… I saw a guy a few weeks ago fishing in the inlet of all places, catching the occasional bluegill, and one of those he had caught looked just like that. Not the same fish, cuz that one was dead…

Looks like a bite to me, got stuck by a bird in its adolescent yrs ..
