Mantua madness 7/12

Well, no pics today because we forgot the camera. Took my boys out on the raft at Mantua and a long story short- we just slayed the bluegill. Between all 3 of us I’m estimating we caught 75-85 total in about 3 1/2 hours.

The highlights were a 9+" Bluegill, 10 1/2" fat perch, and a 13" stocky largemouth bass. Almost non-stop action once we found the honey hole (20’ deep pocket).

Let me just add here, that now I know why TD doesn’t like to fish on Saturdays. It seems to me that it’s a motorboat madhouse with people racing around everywhere dodging us poor fishermen. Is there no consideration for other folks? It was powercrowd heaven to say the least.

Other than that…a fun day at the now too popular Mantua. Folks it’s only a matter of time before they make that little pond wake-less.

Mantua seems to be a treasure. I hope we can maintain it at least to it’s present level. Good on you guys, enjoy it some more!!! Really. [fishin]
Folks, don’t take more than you can use home, ok? So far, there’s **more **than enough for all of us. Let’s try to keep it that way.
Laveman, this ain’t directed at you, just a generic comment, to remind folks, ok? I keep my share.
Leaky and the Sparkinator

No problemo amigo.

We released every one of those fishies today…and they all swam off to be caught again.

Every one??? :astonished: Don’t you like to eat fish?? Wow! I need to eat some of those guys to maintain my health and get some pay back for gas $. Good on ya, you’re a better man than I.

I don’t think it’s possible to dent the gill at Mantua. Now no taking of gill would be bad, but taking legal limits is probably that lakes Saviour.

What they need to do in there (besides making it wake-less), is plant a few tiger musky.

That will put a dent in the bluegill population.

RIght on LAVAMEISTER! Trying any FLIES on these guys?[;)]

No. I need to learn how to fly fish… one of these days!!

Not so sure that using a fly would necessarily catch more fish over there? The way I see it, “if it’s not broken don’t fix it” heheh

“if it’s not broken don’t fix it”

ABSOLUTELY!:sunglasses:

Seriously though I do need to learn how to fly fish. Always wanted to.

Getting all the right equipment (fly-fishing setup) seems to be a small feat though. That stuff is not cheap.

Fantastic blog, Joni!

Well Thank you! A work in progress.
MacFly has been building it for me. Got to get some stuff up for my NEW madness…CARPAGE!

:sunglasses:Good job, Derek! I still need to inspect my tube to see how bad the hole in the bladder is. Been working two jobs, so I don’t have free time for squat. I’m gonna take my kids up there to catch some tiny ones from shore on Saturday evening. We’ll have to plan something there from the tubes/pontoon before summer’s over…

Thanks Geoffrey!

What time you going to be there on Saturday? Maybe I can run over and say hi (and outfish you heheh)

:sunglasses:Looks like I’m gonna have to postpone this Mantua trip. Spent too much money visiting my girlfriend last weekend.[pirate] I’m looking to go in a few weeks though. I’ll send ya a p.m. before then…

sounds good. that will give you time to get your priorities in order- fishing should ALWAYS come before girlfriends/wives [;)]

Well, actually that is idealistic. But human needs both physical and emotional sometimes allows the girls to win over even fishing. Especially if the girl has the body of a swimsuit model.[;)][:p]

:sunglasses:LOL!! Actually, she DOES have the body of a swimsuit model. It’s kind of nice too going from a size 16 model(ex) to a size 6 model. Too bad she lives in CO, or I would have already taken her fishing by now. Says she wants to learn. I’ll be testing that theory out soon. Says she’ll even go icefishing (yeah right - we’ll see about that one). If she likes it, then she might be a keeper![;)]

:sunglasses:You are right, Derek! I need to set that girl strait!! LOL…[;)]
