Jordanelle 6-23-2010 new to forum

Hi Everyone,
I’m new to the forum and wanted to participate a bit and as a few questions. Went up to Jordanelle this morning launched at hailstone around 6am and went to the first canyon on the South side of the Rockcliff arm(the one with the trees in the middle of the entry). I tried working the shore and trees with a bass colored popper, but didn’t get any its. Switched over to a pumpkin crawfish and a small weight in and front and still nothing. Watched a pretty nice trout jump out of the water for a fly.

I worked my way to the back of the canyon and started working back with a “perch” colored crawfish crankbait. This was around 9ish. Finally hooked into a few fish. I didn’t land the first two, but the third was a small smallmouth. See picture. I was fishing near the large rock in the middle of the canyon. Had to leave around 10ish, but it was nice to finally catch a few fish in UT(originally from the New England). I’ve been skunked the last couple of times out(DC and Nelle).

Funny part of the day, got back to the marina and tied up the boat. Go up and back the truck back and walk out on the dock to hop back in the boat, wait it’s gone…the line snapped and it had floated about 1/4 mile off the pier. Went and emptied the pockets to go for a swim, but got an offer for a ride. I’ll be replacing the tie lines tomorrow:). I’ll be up early Fridya morning, probably stay around all day. I’m in an weathered glastron orange in color with a titan towing it.

Now for the questions:
The first fish I hooked onto looked like either a striped, white, or wiper bass. I remember a news article about them finding a white bass near deer creek I believe. I wish I had boated it, but I got avery good look, well enough to see some black horizontal lines on a white fish with a very black tail. Just wanted to know if that fish was supposed to be there or not?

I’ve been trying to learn as much as I can on Jordanelle, read previous posts and such. I see a lot about rockcliff area, but I got sunked there a couple of weekends ago(may have been the weather). Are there any spots I need to try out for sure at Jordanelle? My wife is getting bored of me not catching anything while she’s hanging out in the boat with me.

Well any advice for Mountain West bass fishing is appreciated and I usually have an open spot on the boat if you ever want to come along(usually fish on Fridays).

You might have hooked yourself a Utah Chub  PM me and I will share some of my spots and techniques, as I frequent Jordanelle quite often for smallies.

**Ghost Boat, I never done that before .

Chubs are spawning right now. The smallies are starting to push the perch fry up into the grass(the only live vegetation in the lake). Water levels have just started stabilizing and the bass will be spawning very soon or have already begun. There are some big browns 20 feet and shallower feeding on the perchies too.

I’ll be up there tomorrow with my wife as well. Black Canoe on a white Ford Ranger. I usually troll the cliffs for trout. I go down one side and up the other until I find a hot spot. I haven’t been to the Nelle for a little while. I’m far from an expert, but usually grab a few trout on spinners, Jakes or rapallas. I usually try the north west end for bass in the coves. Usually use either a plastic worm or in the late evening pop gear. Maybe I’ll see you there. Hope your lines are tight.
