I have been fishing white bass and utah lake for over a decade and have never seen the numbers of large whites, huge toad larggies and even caught two small mouth. Has anyone ever caught smallies in utah lake, I know the diffetence between the species and one hundred percent it was small mouth. Over the weekend we landed fifteen lmb smallest two lbs biggest 6lbs big healthy fish I love utah
I caught a 15 inch small mouth earlier this year at Provo.
Good 2 know I’m not crazy, the state doesn’t even have them listed as a possible catch. I wonder if its some of those bucket biologists doing or they simply made it down river?
No, I would say they made it down from deer creek during the spring run off’s
No one lists crawfish as being in Utah Lake, but there are there also, coming from both Deer Creek and Spanish Fork River. Nature will always find a way to fill in a niche !! Since Utah lake is downstream from Deer Creek and Strawberry/Soldier Creek, Smallies and crawfish from Deer Creek and Crawfish from Strawberry/Soldier creek will naturally move down stream. You cannot say that the White Bass in Deer Creek swam upstream, over the diversions and under the Deer Creek dam however !!! Some clown put them there !!!
Several years ago I caught a smallmouth in the Provo River in Provo Canyon. I’m sure it made its way there from Deer Creek somehow. It was about 13 inches.
Now has anyone caught a lake trout out there?
They were stocked back in the 50’s I believe, but never were able to survive due to the warm temps. Pretty much every fish that swims in fresh water has been stocked in UL. , so you might catch something really strange out there !!! Browns are caught in the mouth of the Provo and Spanish Fork Rivers fairly regularly. The occasional Rainbow has also been taken, the last one I have heard of was off the Knolls area about 7-8 years ago. So you never really know what is going to pickup your bait !! Go fish and have fun !!!
Strawberry is not upstream from Utah Lake. Totally different drainage, but I see what you’re saying and yes, it’s possible that smallies could travel down the river into Utah Lake.
It’s probably more likely that they were put there though. I think a lot of people have tried throwing some sort of fish in there.

Some may have gotten there that way, but crayfish do live in Deer Creek too. They could have washed down from there. I’m pretty sure that some species are native to the area, they may have always been there.
I believe you on the small mouth, but I’d like to see a picture. I’ve always thought that if I got a SMB from UL it’d be a good day. Anyways, I’m not calling you out, I just want to confirm to myself that SMB are in UL. Good job man!
caught a small one last winter over at Saratog Springs. mixed in with the sunnies and crappie. 'bout 6 inches
pretty sure i remember a post last spring of a rainbow caught in UL at the mouth of the Provo. but i have drank once or twice since then

I caught a 10 inch cutthroat in the Provo Boat Harbor this last winter while ice fishing. That was a pretty awesome catch. I have no idea where it came from.
I have attached a picture of the cutt. Coolest 10 inch fish I have ever caught (besides golden trout).
