I hear people that catch browns and call a 20" 5lb when all they are is 3 at best and the cuts up at the Berry, well any way its there fish story so they can say anything they want…But one thing for sure “its only the big one that get away” all of them was over 5 lb…[;)] Even the Blue Gills…
I Googled your favorite Rapala Loop Knot and will give it a try on my new Rapalas…

You’ll see a couple floaters.There was about 15 bald eagles hanging around up high on the cliffs..If not for them I’d think there would of been more.I’ve never seen so many eagles in one place.It was a super neat sight!!! Them are some huge birds…

your right I did release the fish. I did it because I really wanst sure what the hell it was. Was thinking it was a fish on the endangered species list or something. I finally figured out it was one of the shad in powell that had grown too big for the other fish to eat. I learned that their is few of them like that and dont have any predators so they grow big and fat. I am still kickin myself for not getting a better measurement. You seem like a stand up guy too. not everybody will post pics of big macs and then tell us exactly how they did it. I will try to be as informative a guy as you are. its is way too cool to have found people that like fishing as much as I do if not more.

The shad you got is what keeps Powell in good shape and you can not keep them..
A couple of years back CBR got one that was 21" long I think and 19" or 20" around…
We seen a big school of them that day, he got his on a crank bait…

is that because it is illegal to possess a shad big or small right? I m glad I released it. I would have no use for it anyway. Im glad you pointed that out im a catch and release guy though. I do eat smaller walleye less than 20’’ and perch ect. White meat fish.

I know you release all your bass right, but what about the stripers down at powell?

No I do not release all my bass, and I do not release any stripers…
Now let me explain, First I do keep a bass from some waters like Powell or the Gorge but only SM under 12" and only to eat on that day or the next day…I don’t keep any LM bass from any waters unless I want one to mount it and it has to be a state record for that…Bass are not planted, but the DWR only moves them from lake to lake or pond…There are other fish that taste better and are better to keep and eat, the bass are some of the better fighters and grow to a size that makes them a real challenge to catch…
Now the only thing that makes Powell as great as it is is the bait fish (two types of shad) and all the brush that is under the water now for the shad to hide in and around…
The brush is helping to bring back the cray fish as well, the more food you have in a lake the better it is all the way around for all…
Thanks for responding. I feel the same way about keeping the larger sport fish in the lakes and the “STRIPERS” need all the help we can give them.
