Fish Lake 1/10

I hit Fish lake with a buddy today and we had a great time. The ice was crystal clear and very slick. Probably 6-7 inches. We went straight out from the marina and fished just past the weedline. We started fishing at 7:45 and immediately were hooking up with splake and some bows. The fishing was so fast we just quit using bait and were still catching fish. The fishing slowed after about an hour but we still were catching fish regularly. I went in a little shallower and caught a perch for bait and we started tipping our jigs with that. We used a 2.5 inch pearl Gitzit with 1/8 oz jig head. I also had an orange shrimpo a foot or so above my jig and actually caught quite a few fish on the shrimpo. I even managed to catch two splake at one time! In the early morning the fish seemed to be 10-15 ft below the ice and later in the day they seemed to be closer to the bottom. All fish seemed to like aggressive jigging and many were caught as the jig was falling. We caught way too many fish to count but it had to be at least 50 fish between the two of us. The camera wouldn’t work so no pics but most of the fish were splake between 14-18 inches.

Great report. Fish Lake is where I wanted to go today - just not enough time. Yuba was closer and a far as I made it. What was the weather like up there today?

The weather was fabulous. Sunny and no wind and not very cold at all. Couldn’t have been better.

We were up there as well. The fishing was awesome. I’ll bet we caught at least 75 between the 3 of us. Were you in the wind at the end of the day? It blew so hard that my tent was dragging my snowmobile.
