Made the long drive back down to Fish Lake this morning. When I arrived, I thought for a minute I made a wrong turn back at Spanish Fork Canyon and had gone to Schofield. Lots of fishermen and women on the ice today. Good thing the lake is big enough to spread out on. Ice was around 10" and solid. Fished beyond the weed beds in about 35’ of water out from the south marina. Splake played better today than last week. The day was sunny and beautiful. Did best on an orange jig tipped with perch meat. The parking was much better as far as being plowed - just full of trucks. With all the people, I am surprised this is the only post so far. How did others do there today?
How was the ice? Is there very much snow on it and how deep is the snow?
There was 8 to 10" of ice on the lake with just a skiff of snow on the ice. There was still quite a bit of snow around the lake, but the roads and parking were plowed. There was easy access to the lake from the south marina parking.
We were the second to arrive in the south marina yesterday at 7:00. We fished in 90 feet of water and we had lots of action for splake, bows and some pup lakers the entire time there. The bows and splake was just 15-20 feet below the ice. The lakers were mostly caught a few feet off the bottom, but we would catch a few that was few feet below the ice. We used tube jigs in various sizes tipped with perch meat. We ended up leaving at 12:15. I was also surprised with the crowds that was there.
I was there with my Dad and two brothers as well on Saturday. We had a great day. We fished south of the lodge a ways in 25 ft of water. Caught lots of splake and a dozen or so perch and one nice rainbow. After the sun was up we drove the wheeler to the far side of the lake. Caught lots more splake and about a dozen rainbows. Splake and rainbows were coming through anywhere from right under the ice to 40 feet. Tried fishing deep for some lakers, but I guess I was having too much catching the splake and bows to spend to much time down deep. It was a great day fishing!
what a diffrence a day makes.. i was there sunday got there about 8:30 walked out to my laker hole punched 2 holes. seen some fishing coming through 10 to 40 feet down.. not the fish i’m looking for.. but seen some fish right on the bottom these are the fish i was looking for..

[sly] snowed the whole time i was there not realy cold tell the wind changed from the south to coming from the north then it got way cold..lol ice was 8 to 10 inch.. you can go anywhere ya want on a wheeler or snowmobile..
oh and there was only 4 or 5 other trucks in the parking area on the south end.. i never went past there.. only seen about 10 other groups out on the ice..
Thanks all for your reports. I knew with the numbers of people, some must be BFTer’s. Glad to hear good reports from all over the lake. By the way DarnO, you were there ahead of me. I arrived at 0815 and was about the 25th truck in the south parking. ![]()
Thanks for the info…I will be at FL 20th-24th. Fishing has always been excellent every year we go down. I got grundles of fish there every time, just no macs yet. Ive seen them (big ones) one the aqua view and scan em all day long on the bottom, but no luck yet. Maybe this will be the year. Love the lake, hate the wind.
