I went to Echo today. I arrived around 6:30 in the morning and was fishing around 7:00. There’s still enough ramp to Launch and the courtesy docks are still in. I was trying to hit the early morning topwater bite, but I didn’t catch anything on the top water stuff. I then started casting some crankbaits working the shoreline. I ended up catching quite a few bass using this method. Most were small. The biggest bass was 14 and 1/2 in. I really wanted to catch some perch but I could never find any schools. As I was moving from one area to another I just put out some crankbaits behind the boat and hugged the shoreline. I came up over a Long Point and got hit. It turned out to be a perch. I turned the boat around and went back over the point again and got another perch. I repeated one more time and got a third perch. I hooked another 2 but the got off near the boat. I then put on spot lock and worked the area and caught a couple of bass but no more perch. I also caught one rainbow while I was casting cranks and it looked like it had been attcked by a flock of pelicans. It had big deep slashes on its side.
The water was kind of gross due to the algae bloom but the fish didn’t care. I was amazed at the power boats pulling people in that nasty water. To each their own.
I kept a couple of bass and the
perch. I didn’t take a picture of the water level but online the state park said it was 31% full. Water temp was 66 degrees when I launched.
