Hit DC with a bunch of Scouts and neighbors. We were about 200 yards out from the boat ramp at Charleston and hit them hard all morning. We were on ice about 7 a.m. and first fish on deck by 7:15. The fish hit consistently all morning until about 1 pm when things shut down.
The Scouts had a blast! All finished earning their fishing merit badge. My wife dropped off my 5 year old little girl and no sooner did she sit down to look at her pole then she iced 2 trout within 5 minutes. Then she was ready to go home.
We iced almost 20 fish. Although there were a few cookie cutters, we had quite a few 2-3 lb fish and lost several large ones at the hole. It’s tough chasing tangled lines, wet boots, all the while listening to, “Hey, Jeff, can you help me? My reel broke” or “Hey, why won’t the fish bite?” “Well, if you’d keep you line in the water, maybe you’d get a bite.”
It was a good afternoon. We ran into a BFTer whose name was Skinny-something-or-another. He took pics that he said he would post. I couldn’t get mine off the phone to post.
We caught them about 6" - 1ft off the bottom with little green puddle bugs and green gitzit jigs tipped with an earthworm.
