anyone fishing Pelican lake?

Hey I was just wondering if anyone has been fishing pelican lake lately and how the fishing has been. Finally getting a few days off and would like to get down there and try it out for some catch photograph and release action on some bass and bluegills.

Its been a while since I was there. My last trip was on the ice having some fun and its time for me to get back down there and get the boat wet for the first trip this year.

Hey bud glad to see you’re still around. My oldest son and I spent last Friday down there but didn’t get on the lake until 8 or so and left about 2. We tried mainly for bass and only caught dinks. We did try for a few bluegill and caught some small ones. I have never had my boat on the soft water there only ice fishing for us since the late 70’s. I did do some trolling and picked up a few small fish that way, but mostly to chart some spots on one of my GPS units in the boat. I didn’t realize that lake had sooooo many carp. If I remember right the water temp was 70 to 71 degrees. Good luck to ya, I think if I were you I would head to Willlard for some eyes and maybe a wiper or two. I haven’t fished Willard for a couple weeks but hoping to head out there in the morning. Have a great summer and stay in touch. I’m sending a PM.

Hey Jim, My youngest son (BIGbites) and I also fished it last Friday and had fast action for average gills along the edge of the reeds. We caught a lot of bass but nothing over 15". We saw a couple nice bass but no takers. I too can’t believe how many carp are in Pelican now. We were constantly seeing them cruising around.

Pete, I was thinking the truck parked near the boat ramp might be yours.

My truck was a red F-150 crewcab with a topper and a big SMOKE A PACK A DAY wolf sticker in the back window. Wish I would have known you were there. We didn’t have any bass near the 15 in. mark.

Hey Packfan nice to hear from you and glad you caught some bass and gills to. I sent you a PM and would love to hook up this summer and catch a fish with you to.

Hey hookngrinin thanks for the info to thats great to hear that you and your son were out there on the water and had some good action to. Its been a long time since I ran into you down there and was wondering if you had been catchin some there to.

I need my first trip out on the boat really bad thats for sure. Do you guys know by chance if I could put my boat in over on the north side of the lake at the boat ramp access? Or if its to plugged up from all the reeds to get through there without a lot of work? If its to plugged I guess I will just unload and the main ramp on the south side of the lake. reason I ask is it would be closer to unload at the other one as thats where I like to mostly fish in the summer time.

Well thanks again guys I need to do some field testing on some new plastics and pelican lake is calling them :sunglasses: BUT I have to head back to work in a few minutes for 1 more long night shift them its going to be FISH ON good luck fishin trfishin

We fished there Saturday 16th, (with 25 youth.)
What a blast.
I never tied on so many jigs.
We found the water murky.
caught lots of small BlueGill and bass. (nothing Big)
We also seen lots of carp swimming. The kids thought they were Largemouth Bass and got all kinds of excited.
It is also very mossy.
We will be back to fish hard water in January.
Next trip Utah Lake.

Hey Kelly that sounds like a busy fishin trip for sure but glad they all caught some fish. My son and I went today but just did some shore fishing as im waiting on parts for my boat motor.

We caught some bass off the docks and around the shore 14" was the biggest and some small bluegills to. Big or small they are all fun for us and had a great fathers day with my son. We will have to meet up on the hard deck again and hook some more bass and bluegills thats always fun for sure down there. It was a hot one today 95 degs and about noon it cranked up about 40+ mph wind and huge white caps so not taking the boat wasnt all bad saved a few bucks on gas

when we got there the water was fairly clear but turned to chocolate when the wind and huge waves came in

me the wife and kid were out there in may and the gills were on fire I was able to land a handful of LMB (finding the right lure took a little time but once i found the one it was on)
