I hit pelican lake today and it was great fishing for me. I ended up with 65 bluegills and 6 bass. managed 10 bluegills that were 10" the rest were smaller but tough fighters. The biggest bass was 14". I put all the fish back to pack on some more weight for the next trip out there. I just love to fish pelican lake, when your least expecting it a bass will latch on and you better have your drag set.
thanks it was a great day just missed my little fishing buddy he had to stay home but had a great time. the ice was still in good shape but there was some water on the edges on the east side by the highway everywhere else seemed to be good shape
Nice report and pictures Jim, I’m glad to read you made it over there one more time. From the looks of it you were using your custom jigs, what color was best?
way to go i wanted to say thanks for your input awhile back for out there we caught about that many gills between 3of us so u must be a FAR better fisherman than i anyone congrats i wish i could have found more bass we only caught one and only seen about 6 on my underwater camera but no takers.
hey No problem Steve O Im glad you guys had good luck when you went on your last trip. Some days are better fishing than others and yesterday was a great day for me.
Im hoping to get down there one more time on the ice before its gone. Iooks like it will hold out for a little while longer but with warm temps it doesnt take long for the ice to go bad.
I’m heading over there tomorrow. Any tips on depth or types of areas to fish? IN the deep midle or closer to the weeds? etc?
I never did take you up on the offer to send me a couple of those little lures, but I couldn’t think of anything I could send you as a nice gesture, either…
Sounds like you had a good trip, I’m headed back down there Friday to give it another go. I luv catching those gills thru the ice. Taking a couple guys on their first outing there for gills thru the ice. Thanks for posting.
it was a great trip and im trying to get things done and hopefully take a day off to go one more time this weekend. I like to fish around the reeds and if no luck there I just start moving around and try to find some active fish then just stay put there.
Sounds like you fish about the same as we do as far as finding fish. We may have to take an ATV along as one of my friends has a hard time walking so I’m hoping we can get an ATV on the ice. Not quite sure what day we will hit Pelican Friday or Sat. as they want to try Starvation one day as well. We may bump into you out there.[fishin]
I was really glad to hear that you put the bass back. I guess I should get over my ill feelings for those who keep the bass, even though they don’t taste good. I love pelican too, and it is up to us as the anglers to keep that fishery going!!!
hey dfish, thanks Its a great place to take the family and catch some fish. I have been fishing it for the past 18yrs and have only taken 2 bass and 4 bluegills out of there. One bluegill is now on my wall and it was 1lb 10oz when I got it home and it was frozen. It was 11" long and 12" girth. It was a great catch for sure.
I dont eat many fish but dont have anything against people wanting to eat fish to. I just enjoy catching and taking a quick photo and letting them go. This way of fishing for me is great as I dont have to clean any fish at the end of the day. good luck fishin
I don’t mind keeping a few of the smaller bass to eat and don’t mind telling people I do. As far as eating they are great especially in the winter time. If you don’t keep bass to eat I’m not sure how you would know how they taste. [crazy]
