I was wondering where you had disappeared to thought maybe you pulled up roots and beat feet for another area. I haven’t fished Pelican since last winter, I have a hard time passing by Starvation in the spring/summer. Probably won’t be on Pelican again until the hard deck fishing starts. [fishin]
Was there two weeks ago. The fishing was somewhat slow, but if you worked hard, you could catch fish. There were very few bugs that day, but who knows. The water is droping, it was down about 8-12 inches from the ring on the reeds. Best bet was varried. Some fish caught flippin sweet beaver type baits in the reeds, some on spinner baits, some on topwater.
hey Packfan Just been working way to many 6 days a week this summer and not much time to get out and fish much at all I havent even been bassin this summer yet and thats not like me but im going to change that this week sometime I hope.
Thanks alot for the fishing info and report therapist. I cant wait to try to get into some topwater fishin hopefully before it cools off to much thanks again and I will let you know when I get back from fishin [fishin]
My father and I went in late May, and we caught a lot of fish, but nothing really of size.. 2" curly tail jigs were the ticket that day. Fished the southwest side all day. Bugs weren’t too bad that day.. But then again that was in May..
thanks for the information I have been itching to get back down there this summer but work has been cutting into my fishing but you have to work to play
Heres the reason Im needing to get back down there and try to see if the old girl I caught and released last year fishin with my dad has maybe put on a pound or two more.
This is the biggest largemouth bass that I have ever caught out any lake in Wyoming and Utah. It was caught last september off of a
3 1/2" plastic top water frog that I made just a couple days before We went down there fishing
She was 21" and weighed 7lbs. She was one that would have looked great on my wall BUT I have an 8 1/2lb largemouth bass on the wall all ready from Florida. That and I have been fishing that lake for 16 years to catch one that big and she deserved to be released to be caught another day.
first picture she was to big for me to hold the camera and take my own picture so my dad jumped up and took some quick shots then we released her.
This year was tough for big fish when I went down in July. The last couple years were better for the bigger fish, but maybe it was just dumb luck. We did catch a bunch this year. Here is a pic of one I got last year.
I have been out there half a dozen times in the last 3 weeks. Fishing has been good for me. I go in the evenings after work, from around 6:30 until I can’t see much anymore. Fishing is super-fast for bluegills with a worm under a bobber. I have been catching bass pretty frequently by casting a spinner bait about 5-10 feet into the reeds. Any light color, such as white, chartreuse, or the combination of both has been the bait of choice it seems. I have also caught a number on some plastic worms. It has been a lot of fun. Took a co-worker and he caught his first 3 lmb ever out of there the other night. His biggest two were in between two and three pounds. Most of the ones I have been catching are have been 11-14 inches. Definitely a lot of fun. And to be honest, the bugs haven’t really been that bad - if you have bug spray. Don’t even bother going if you don’t have any, that is unless you don’t mind getting eaten alive. [;)]
Wow Scartinez thats a hog for sure nice catch. Thanks thefriends03 for the information the boat is loaded and headed down there fishin tomorrow with my dad. I will let you guys know how the fishin was for us. Thanks guys and good luck fishing
Sorry for the late report. We got down on the lake about 10am and fished until about 5pm. The bluegill fishing was fast. Some really small ones but some nice size ones to.
As for the bass fishing it sure wasnt very fast fishing for us. It was our first time out bassin this summer and we missed alot of bites. We caught quite a few small 8 to 12" bass and only 6 that were 14 to 16". We still had a great day for sure. Im suprized that the bass werent hitting better with calm water almost all day and 83 degree surface water temps. Well it was still a great trip and planning another one soon. Its like any lake somedays are better than others.
The lake is the fullest I have ever seen there this time of year and the bugs for us with mirror glass water all day were almost none exsistant for us. Towards evening there were a few bugs starting to come out when we were loading up the boat. Thanks again for the information and reports you all gave me to.
Thanks for the bug report. How are the reeds with the water being so high? Are there still pockets where you can get back into the junk? That’s where I like to fish.
the reeds are pretty tall but you can get back in there quite a ways just fishing the edges and there are some pockets that you can get up into to. Im sure im going to go back down there soon and try for some more bass. I cant wait I love to fish deep in the reeds to
