Finally convinced the wife to head up to strawberry with me and land some lunkers. Of course it’s the one day I cant catch a thing! we threw everything i had… jakes, panther martins, blue fox and even power bait off the bottom, and not even a bite. Very discouraging. Was it the rain? just a slow day? Anybody have a hard time this weekend? someone please say yes so my wife doesn’t think all my pictures are photo shopped!
Went with my wife also and tried saturday, same story worm and mallow off the bottom, pointers, countdowns, xraps, nada, I think the storm had something to with it. we didn’t even bother trying this morning just headed home.
Bummer man… Rough weekend I guess! I heard only folks catching fish were the ones trolling at 50’
Fished it Thursday, Friday, & Saturday. Caught around 70 - 75 trout and 4 kokanee over the three days. Downriggers with stackers at 55 to 30 feet. Couldn’t keep the trout off the lines. Mostly cutts with maybe 5 or 6 bows. Released everything but the kokanee.
Well thanks for rubbin’ it in! Just kiddin sounds like you had a good time up there anyway.
Ya ya rub it in a little deeper! Glad someone was catching them… Time to buy a boat!
[fishon]i caught my 1st koke rather large 6" .rained on most of the time today.11 cutts 1 rainbow 16 inches fished from 8 am till 3 pm 27 to 36 feet deep
Strawberry from shore is tough right now. It will pick up again when the temps drop. I tried on saturday and didnt get a bite.

Nice work! Were you trolling?

I get a taste of the epic rainbow fishing and then just like that it’s gone! Looking forward to the cooler weather for sure
Caught a lot of fish Saturday. Did not get on the water til 12:30 pm because of the weather. Caught fish on down riggers with flatfish, kokanee gear, pop gear. Fished from 25-40 ft. Then went into a little bay and started catching bows on bait. Caught my biggest berry rainbow at 3.5 lbs.. So not rubbing it in was a good fishing day with all the crappy weather up there this weekend.
So in this report is the good, the bad, so where is the ugly?[;)]
The berry can be a tough mistress! I don’t wanna see anymore kokenee reports guys!!! I might just have to buy some salmon at the store now.[frown]
just take your pontoon with electric motor and down rig you might catch some then ha ha ha XD

Yeah yeah if I were a rich man! I just have a toon with paddles.
When you are fishing that 25-40’, which part of the lake are you in?
On our last trip we hit the north end of the lake and the moss was horrific in anything less than about 30’ of water.
Trolling was a bit of a nightmare.

.Leaving the main marina went left towards the narrows. Got about halfway there and decided to try the deeper water.. Started catching fish immediately. Had fish on before I had other poles out.. When I got to the steep bank east of the marina, I traveled north towards the ladders. I was fishing about a hundred yards off shore. I even had two doubles on that stretch of water. And no moss!!!
Fished the Berry on Saturday. It was an odd day with an east wind. Hardly ever see an east wind on the Berry. We moved around from south to north of the lake until we found the active fish. Once we found the active fish it was fast and furious for two hours. We were bait fishing and have four fish on the lines on multiple occasions. It was great time and some the nephews who don’t get to fish much haven’t stopped talking about it. Success!! Oh and we caught some big fish in the mix as well. It’s great to catch some fish with shoulders. I love the Berry.
Thank you for the tips. I’ve thought deeper water might be the trick there after a few slow outings just shallow trolling without the downriggers.
We’ll have to head up in the next couple weeks and try deep fishing there.
As you probably realize now, usually when referring to trolling, the depth referred to is the depth at which the trolling lures is pulled, not the depth of the lake where the trolling is occurring.
Well some good and bad for everyone, i guess thats what keeps it exciting! thanks for all the input guys. Looks like i need to get a boat now!
