After reading the latest reports of great fishing, we headed up Sunday morning. Launched at Strawberry marina at 8:00, headed north and started in the cove between chicken creek east & west. Lots of fish on the finder, water was 20-25’ deep, most fish were at 15’. Between 5 of us, (3 using tube jigs one black, and one white, tipped with chub meat or worms, 2 casting spinners/lures with 2 poles using power bait) I caught 1 bow about 16" and that was it for the whole day. After 1 1/2 hr. there, moved to the west shore were the river comes in, again fish all over the finder, none boated, 2 hooked with spinners, but came off after a few seconds. Left 11:30 headed to haws pt. fished a small bay on the north side to get out of the wind. No bites, loaded up at 2: and called it a day. Spoke to a few who said it was slow, only catching 1 or 2, saw one bank tangler catch one at haws pt. Maybe the front coming in killed it? Who knows, but the shifting mechanism in my boat started acting up, would not engage forward or reverse without me trying for several minutes to get it engaged. Last trip with the boat this year I’m afraid.[frown]
Man that sucks about the boat. The trout fishing on Sunday was not great at little dell either. I have never had an epic day at Strawberry…but plenty of others have! Thanks for the report.
Strawberry is funny…we were at Bryants Fork (think that is what it is called) Saturday and I lost count. 30’ to 36’ of water.
Strawberry is a great example of how 90% of the fish are in 10% of the water. See what I ment by plenty of other people have epic days out there. Good luck next time…personally I am waiting for the hard deck.
I have to agree with you. I have this terrible itch for the Hard Deck to get here. Missed a whole season last year and I really need to make up for it. Although I may need to find me a power auger this year.
Heck, you can be right next to each other using exactly the same and still catch less…why I guess its called fishing and not catching.
True that…at Utah Lake I was catching white bass after white bass and gave my rod to a buddy…he got NOTHING! He put it back into my hand and BAM…the action was right back on. Considering Strawberry is SO BIG, I guess it is hot in some places and cold in others. Hopefully the cooler temps will pick up the close to shore action soon. I appreciate reports like this tho…they stop me from thinking that I am missing out on the hottest fishing. Thanks for posting.
I tell you, I use to shore fish, and occasion still do, but having a pontoon, I am amazed at how well the guys do on the shore at Strawberry. Really makes me think I over analyze fishing at times..LOL But then again, my offerings are looks only…no smell or taste. Like the Mepps and Kastmasters.
I agree that the fish will gather more in certain parts of the lake, but it is frustrating to see them on the fish finder in such high numbers constantly for hours at a time and they dont open their bloody mouths[;)]. I have cruised the soldier creek side many times in and out of the big coves on the east side and the northern end and have had “zero” fish on the finder.
