Hit Willard last night for a few hours. Got there about 5:30 and stayed until 9:00. We caught 5 wipers between 4 of us and missed 3-4 good hits that didn’t hook up. Each fish was on a different lure, so none of my usual lures were dynamite. Fished around the South marina, South dike, and Freeway bay. Lots of boats out there, saw a few others with nets in hand so the fishing must have been fair at least.
Old Coot: is was ok, but not stellar. Just in case you were wondering [;)]
I must have some sign on th back of my boat that attracts boats to me. 3 times last night I had a boat pulling a water skier come between me and another boat. We were both trolling about 200- 250’ away from each other, and we had several more just come by on the sides. I don’t think any of them were closer than the 100’ buffer zone but they were dang close to it. It almost makes you miss the low water. Oh well gives us something to complain about when the fishing is slow.
I was there as well for several hours and had nothing good to report other than great weather. We had a few bites and spent most of the time on the island. Did hit freeway bay and thte pig farm but could find the right combination. Fished with 3 poles all afternoon at diff. depths, but notta
We had similar success not a ton of fish but just enought to keep us interested. The fish we did catch were healthy and pretty fat. Now that the water is up I’m gonna have to get used to all the boats and especially the inconsiderate wave makers. In case you didn’t recognize, that was me that said hi in the south marina as we were leaving. Bugs about carried me off.
Thanks for posting up.I would have figured it would have been better with the conditions.
I like when it’s over cast and windy myself. right before a cold front moves in has been the best fishing for me. If the waves are pounding the dike it’s time to cast. If it’s dead calm then troll the open water.
Did you see any terns diving in the water yet? Just curious if there eating the shad yet.On the last tourney they where flying around looking but not diving.
Also I am having trouble veiwing the willard bay cam anyone else having any problems? it’s been about two and half weeks since I was able to connect.
Thank for askin’. I was hoping for better… but I do need more experience. I just put my Wed report along with a post soliciting advice about trolling. I figure I’ll get different (maybe even conflicting) responses, but difference can be good. I like to get different ideas to develop my own sensibilities. I just got my new Church planar boards in the mail today. I thought I’d try two different sizes and see which I like best. And of the different lures I tried yesterday, I was able to get one like what you prefer, and you’ll be glad to know that it was one that “produced.” [;)]
I had high hopes for a lipless rattlin’ rapala (RNR-7), but the thing tracked so much to the left that it wasn’t useful…
I doubt I’ll get out for the next couple weeks. (With some luck, I may fish on the ocean for the first time if I can find a guide while I’m in Southern Calif.)
I’m hoping for some mid summer action - I’ve never experienced any boil fishing yet at Willard. But I’m not making any predictions! Don’t be surprised if you hear from me again. [angelic]
